0610- ELIJAH CRAIG SMALL BATCH BARREL PROOF 94 KENTUCKY STRAIGTH BOURBON WHISKEY 47%.
...a masculine drink, or for the more beautiful segment of the population with a bit of character. There's no point in looking for complexity here. It's simply a well-made bourbon that doesn't promise any proverbial miracles. It's worth every sip, sipping on the terrace as the sun goes down... I'm daydreaming...
    • Nose
...first the color. A distinct, dark, strongly caramel. Now the aromas – strong, intense, lots of toasted caramel, honey, honey-coated cereal. It seems sharper when the liquid is stirred. If the fruit is very ripe greengages, nectarines, or hairy peaches. I'll check the empty one – it's the same as the full one; there's nothing untoward, no varnish, no acetone, not even the familiar and almost obvious cucumber liquid. Strange and very interesting. I'm going back to the full one – sweet, vanilla, a bit of spice for sprinkling frothed milk over coffee in the form of spices and cinnamon sugar. It's pleasant – it smells like a ready-made cake mix you buy in a jar, consisting of roasted apples, cinnamon, and cloves. It's enough, because it all encourages you to try it immediately.
    • Taste
...here it's not as sweet as the nose would suggest. We have spiciness, lots of roasted cereal, puffed rice in honey. Cinnamon, spices, grated nutmeg. A delicate "amoli" note appears at the end. A light herbal note, mint leaves, sage, and the first sip ends with a tart greenness. The second sip - the same as in
The first, but you just have to wait a bit and the pepperiness fades, because it lets you know it's there in the first phase. It seems spicier than the first time. There's also more acidity, more spice. The fruit has disappeared; in fact, it's not even there. The finish is again oaky, slightly toasted.
    • Finish
...lingering, strong, spicy, more dry than sweet, it seems refreshing (perhaps because of the herbal feel). However, a hint of acetone appears at the end, and again, a lot of oak.
