Despite being 60% abv, this doesn’t bite. The finish on this is spectacular. Also, so is the rest of it. Just something special that you can’t find most places. The fruitiness is just better than most whiskies. The earthiness is just beyond what you usually get. Savory and sweet in all the right ways. This is a very special whisky, and I am sad to see it go, but glad I got to drink it away.
    • Nose
Really intense peat, super farmy. Blue cheese. Then warming notes of intense chocolate and berries. Incredibly rich. Red wine vinegar, but not that vinegar-y. An entire beehive of honey. This beautiful, peppery, zing. Leather and the musty basement of a cabin deep in the woods.
    • Taste
Again with the intense, earthy peat. Strong, strong sherry. Soy sauce and stewed fruits. Chocolate sauce. Plums. Tons of tangy raspberry and blackberry. Strong smoke. Cinnamon and a variety of spices. Unlike any other sherried whisky, to be perfectly honest. The savoriness, the sweetness, the berries, the smoke. Starts with this intense savory, earthiness before getting sweet and berry-y, then it all comes together. A little hot, but given the abv, better than you might expect. Thick mouthfeel, incredibly chewy.
    • Finish
Heavy molasses and soy sauce. Earthy smokiness, grilled meats. Pine-y like lapsang souchong. Cinnamon and lemon. The smoke really comes through here. Cola. What a balancing act between intense peat and intense sherry. Long finish.
