Whisky Reviews for Tomintoul 2006 CA

While he came in the nose rather meaningless, he shows in the mouth then that he still has a lot of character. Overall, a very attractive whisky.

    Notes from a blind tasting.
    • Nose

First, sweet caramel pudding, shortly thereafter comes a swing herbs. After some time they have disappeared, the pudding has a few ripe grapes mixed in, mint is also something. It warms up very sweet and round. After the first sip also a lot of honey in the nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Very fruity in the mouth, fruity caramel with honey, very oily and strong on the go, dries slightly to the back, just the right amount of tannins.
    • Finish
      85 85
In the finish, the sweetness and the oak keep the scales quite long, while also warming the chest area nicely. Also a little barrel acid is present.

[October, 2018] I had a dram during the Cadenhead warehouse tasting at Campbeltown.

The profile is bold and impressive, actually it "sneaks upon you" with massive malty (washy) flavours that usually come with rather immature drams (but in this setting I like it). The dram is very simple but quite balanced and with a nice mouthfeel and long finish. It is chewable and quaffable, provided you like such a profile (blenders do, for sure)...
