Whisky Reviews for Glen Scotia 2009

  1. rottendon scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

It looks very complex and ripe, especially in the nose, which clearly defines this malt. You can sniff it for a long time. In the mouth, he makes no mistakes.

    Notes from a blind tasting.

But then I'm amazed at the ten years, it seemed older to me, especially in the nose. Quite a bargain for the price!

Smoke evident again, heading for coal firing and some cowshed. At first, he pushes everything else aside, except maybe traces of iodine and acetone. After plenty of standing time there are first clean yellow fruit notes, mirabelle and fully ripe pears, then the smoke comes back, but now much more gently and more towards the campfire and also slightly phenolic. You can find some caramel on one side and iodine on the other. Overall, perfectly integrated and harmonious. A meaty note is added, Beef Jerky. And then suddenly raspberry Maoams. Roast with raspberry sauce? Now cherry pannacotta, then a short time later a light muff, cleaning rags. It is lively, not a bore! There is something new to discover every few minutes. If you warm it up, you stand in the barn again, then come coal firing and disinfectant. The alcohol sometimes bites your nose heavily. It harmonises with dark, malty sweetness, spruce needles, bare rock and a zesty acidity, lemon peel.
    • Taste

Soft on the start with a slight tingling, quite strong, slightly sweetened espresso, clear barrel acid, a little menthol and traces of yellow fruit here too. After a few seconds, the alcohol starts to push hard. Dries backwards. The mouthfeel is initially slightly watery and then becomes increasingly dense.
    • Finish
      89 89
The finish is, as expected, long, first menthol, then it slowly becomes sweeter, a little ash gently lays on the tongue. It's not that smoky after all. The freshness of the menthol stays forever, but everything on a very mild level.
