  1. Monte Gehro scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Overall straight, but not very complex. A well-made Laphroaig from the ex-bourbon barrel. A few drops of water are actually good for the Williamson: more honey in the mouth and a more pleasant finish.
The 10yo CS Batch # 012 (from 2020) is much more intense and full.

Cool smoke, rather in the ashy direction, strong alcohol with menthol freshness, a bit of citrus and vanilla. With time and a little hand warmth, the medical impact will come. Slight malt sweetness in the background. I don't feel anything from oak spice. After a long time in the glass, the alcohol comes out more clearly, pear can be felt, and grain dust.
    • Taste
      86 86
Unexpectedly sweet start, then strong cold smoke, also here ashy again, light citrus freshness, then pepperiness and tingling on the tip of the tongue, at the end a few tannins.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium length, but warming, again the ashes, in between honey sweetness, slight bitterness on the palate.

At first cautious in the nose. Cold ashes. Dry, light-colored wood. A bit of salt. Alcohol sticks out.
    • Taste
      84 84
Stormy attack with a clear alcohol note. Cold smoke fills the mouth, warm wood is added, salt flashes.
    • Finish
      80 80
Thin, with tips of spice that turn into a mild bitterness.

    Laphroaig Stammtisch Dram # 1
Nice starter to the regulars' table evening. Very nice nose, I like it better in the mouth with water. All in all, a round thing if you are into Islay Ex-Bc. But the 10CS also clearly wins with the PLV.

First the full roar of phenolic cold smoke. A little salt, seaweed & iodine. Then a little sweet: vanilla and citrus in the background. Later the citrus turns into grass.
    • Taste
      85 85
Despite the over 50% surprisingly mild start, nice creamy mouthfeel. Then the percentages come through, paired with citrus and sparkling oak.
Much milder with water. More citrus and the oak looks somehow more diluted. Later cold ashes.
    • Finish
      86 86
In the finish, the smoke rears up again. Strangely enough, reminds me of Ardbeg rather than the 10Cs, for example.
With water more like Laphi again. Here too the cold ashes. Overall, it leaves a pretty sweet impression that is difficult to describe ...
The smoke sticks for a really long time.

cold smoke, ash, some rubber, lemon, grasses, herb candy, smoked bacon (maybe also a little bratwurst), salt, a little bit of maritime, something sweet I can't find anything

Nose: vanilla, smoked bacon, iodine, biscuit batter, lemon, honey, salt, smoked fish
    • Taste
      87 87
Lemon, creamy, iodine, lots of ash, bacon and vanilla, not particularly complex but tasty
    • Finish

Warming, salty, lemon, grapefruit, a little liquorice

  7. Misterioso scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

For me clearly a whiskey from the stills of Laphroaig and a very good.
A mature, complex and balanced whiskey that thank God was not contaminated with sweet wine residues and therefore extremely delicious.
The 53.2% represent a good drinking strength and have not yet tempted me to experiment with water.
Laphroaig would often wish me such whiskeys, but I think that only the 10-year-old Cask Strength, published once a year in a homo-poetic volume, comes to him from the Distillery Bottlings.
    • Nose
      91 91
strong but pleasant phenolic smoke, iodine, moist sea beach, ripe, juicy citrus fruits, smoked bacon, suckling pig over a wood fire. Slightly vanilla and toasted cereal. The 13 years have matured the whiskey very well and everything blends into a harmonious, balanced picture.
    • Taste
      92 92
full-bodied and complex with the typical for the distillery medical notes of iodine, a strong sweet earthiness and fresh smoked and grilled flavors. In addition, there are plenty of wonderful citrus flavors, ripe pears, spices such as cinnamon and clove, a pleasant grain note and a little vanilla on the palate to taste.
    • Finish
      90 90
A long finish with sweet peat and damp ash. The fruits and spices are present for a long time.
