Caol Ila is one of the most underrated distilleries in Scotland. Does not look so pretty, produces a lot for the blends and stands in the shadow of its famous neighbors. This Alambic bottling is outstanding. The 10 years in refill Bourbon Cask have given him little color, looks like white wine. But he has everything I want from a smoky Caol Ila.
    • Nose
Dry, medium-bodied smoke, slightly greasy with a maritime, salty sea air note. He seems strong and intense, a little phenolic. After some time in the glass, the strong note changes and becomes slightly milder without fading and citrus notes appear in the background. Very nice, I like it.
    • Taste
Fresh, powerful and sweet. Wonderful smokiness, not very strong but very present. The maritime note is preserved. A slight bitterness that does not really bother.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long. The dry smoke is very present and tastes of smoked ham. The sweetness on one side and the saltiness on the other side persists until the end. This bottling is certainly not a bargain, but definitely something for fans of this distillery.
