  1. JoshNRW scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    Very fresh, lively and lemony.
    Not killed by smoke.
This is a very nice, balanced, simple Laphroaig in the old style.

Unfortunately, such Murray McDavid and also such simply clean Laphroaig bottlings are no longer found today.

Unfortunately, Murray McDavid is now one of the bottlers who, like Laphroaig, stands for extreme, very intense and mostly inharmonious aromas.

I really like the simplicity of this beautiful bottling.

The nose has a pleasingly low peat smoke compared to today's Laphroaigs. By low, I mean balanced. The aromas are fruity, with lots of lemon, mussels, passion fruit, and salty licorice.

The palate continues just as well. Again very balanced, no hint of wood, subtle smoke in the background, fruity lemon zest, vanilla, and then salty aromas with a hint of iodine.

The mouthfeel is full-bodied, sweet, balanced, perfectly drinkable, and contains no overpowering aromas. Fine. The finish is medium-length and simple—but good.
