Whisky Reviews for Glenlivet 2007 SV

For under 50 € an outstanding whisky, which earns 89 points absolutely. Not these modern young UA bottlings from the wet sherry keg that are just pushing and otherwise rather one-dimensional, but a fine, complex sherry whisky that I'm sure I'm going to deal with more often.
    • Nose
Chocolate and honey, subtle sherry and Christmas spices
    • Taste
Always chocolaty basic tone, with honey and orange notes, with wax and coffee hints. The Glenlivettypische flowery sometimes seems through.
    • Finish
Here comes the oak and the milk chocolate goes into bitter chocolate. The finish is medium long

    Notes from a blind tasting
    • Nose
Spicy, subtly sweet, dried fruits, a little malt, later the sweetness is more pronounced and there are vanilla and caramel, I also have some furniture polish. Nice soft subtle wood note, very nice nose
    • Taste
fruity start, spicy, with oak notes and dried fruits, turns into sour and slightly dry. The sweetness can only be heard subtly
    • Finish
spicy, nutty, wood notes, lots of dried fruits, very nice sherry notes, a bit sweet with a hint of chocolate and oily, slightly bitter at the end

Good bang for the bucks sherry Livet. Not overly drowned in sherry but well-intrated and no real off notes (read: sulphur). Not overly complex but everything it does do it does well.

    - a super 10 year old Glenlivet
    - good barrels and convincing taste
    - comparable, for example, to Edradour 12 CALEDONIA
    - with an issue price of € 49 great price for the good whisky,
with currently 90 to 130 € already an announcement that everyone for
    must answer himself ...
    • Nose
tangy and fruity, caramel, nuts, clearly sherry, rose hip, oak
    • Taste
strong, powerful start, sherry, oak, honey, dark fruits, nuts, cocoa, intense mouthfeel, still a clear oak note present
    • Finish
      medium-long finish laden with sherry and oak;
      medium-long, slightly drying aftertaste

Well, it works: young sherry whisky, from first-fill barrels that has not been drowned in strong wine, leaves enough space for the (first-class) distillate and delivers a harmonious overall package. I don't often get 88 points for ten-year-olds; but here I find it actually justified.
    • Nose
      88 88
Despite the first-fill barrels, it has more of a refill character for me. Nice caramel, spicy, with Christmas cookies and elegant almond and pear notes (typically Glenlivet), supported by American oak. The raisin and plum aromas to be expected come second. No alcohol, no youth noticeable. Totally round and mature, looks older than ten years.
    • Taste
      88 88
Very spicy very early, but not peppery. The wood plays the main role in a pleasant way, a bit like good refill piglets, but then clears the way for sherry fruits, gravy and the floral, sweet Speyside character of Glenlivet. Nothing burns or stings, and no aspect dominates. Super balanced. You can either just slurp it away or, if you choose, analyze it in more detail, it is equally suitable for both types of pleasure. Chapeau.
    • Finish
      87 87
Cake batter, almond cookies, Raffaello, plum jam, allspice, a hint of Williams pear brandy.

    —- blind tasting —-

    I am not particularly enthusiastic.
    • Nose
A little restrained, then sweet sherry, with a slight note of sulfur behind. With a little time, a light peach with vanilla will come through. The alcohol stings.
    • Taste
Hot alcohol, then sweet notes, bitterness and something floral on the second sip.
    • Finish
Medium length, initially sweet then spicy and then becoming bitter.

  10. Axel_87 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
Very sweet, distinct aromas of peach and overripe fruit, honey, chocolate typical Glenlivet floweriness
    • Taste
Very sweet, honey with peach, sticky, fresh apples and pears, citrus notes, baked peach, very fresh
    • Finish
Medium length, slightly sweet and sticky, notes of chocolate, slightly bitter at the end, honey and floral notes again
