Hm, I've already thought of more about the 18yo from Highland Park. It seems to me that at least this batch is a shadow of what the Highland Park 18 used to be able to do. He comes across as very trivial here - and Highland Park used to be that.
    • Nose
      85 85
A heather note interspersed with mild smoke, Werthers Echte, toffee, milk coffee. Raisins, nougat, almonds, marzipan.
    • Taste
      84 84
Starts with nougat, marzipan and milk chocolate. Dry wood, very light smoke, heather.
    • Finish
      83 83
Increasing dryness, which seems to crowd out the other aromas.

Agree that this is a shadow of HP 18 from years gone by - a big disappointment.

The walnutty nose is the highlight for me, but the rather limp palate (complete with bizarre and distracting ganja note) and sulphurous finish let it down.

Mine had a different configuration of text and symbols on the rear label from that in Nidan's photo. Bottle code L0404B L03 13/08.

Sherry wood varnish, malt, herbs, light lemon, brandy pastries
    • Taste
      89 89
Sherry, herbs, cherries, slightly smoky and a bit old-cool leather couch, really good. Thyme, few dark berries
    • Finish
      87 87
Very nice finish with gingerbread, thyme and malt. Could very well just be longer, then pepper at the very end

Nice! Sherry and sweetness combined with light oak flavor. Find him harmonious all around. One of my favorite whiskys.

Sherry, honey, caramel. Some spice. Dark fruits in the direction of raisins, figs, but also ripe cherries. Also a light note of cinnamon. Sherry, more from the sweet side, remains dominant. The oak note fits harmoniously with the sherry aroma. Note of marzipan or almond. Then some milk chocolate. I don't find any smoke.
    • Taste
      92 92
Something sweet, spice builds up slowly. More dark chocolate this time. Some smoke, but oak and sherry remain dominant. Dark (berry) fruits. The second sip is very soft and oily. Some honey comes out the back.
    • Finish
      90 90
In particular, the sherry aroma and a little less the oak note are retained for a long time. Some spice. Later dark chocolate, nicely integrated harmoniously. Overall warming and a little smoke on the palate.

N: heavy malt character, light honey (usually stronger), little salty
P: oily, bit burnt barley, cooked apples
    F: Barley and cooked apples

This is not as good as HP 18 used to be...:(
