  1. Official tasting note

Nose: Smoked kippers, rollmop herring, coastal flavours; crushed sea salt.

Palate: Peanut butter, apple smoked, beer, tea leaves, cooked fruits and tannins.

Finish: Sooty, smoked herring, smoked cheese and toasted barley.

This is how I like my Ledaig. Quite punchy and expressive, yet well matured at the same time. The maritime impact is sometimes almost too brutal. not for the faint of heart I would say.

I typed this whisky much younger in a blind tasting because the smoke aromas are so clearly present in the nose, taste and finish.
    The alcohol strength is perfect.
It is very maritime with associations of smoked fish and salt. Great!
    • Nose
Aromatic smoke. Very maritime. Smoked fish. sea breeze. It will get cuter over time. Vanilla.
    • Taste
Mineral, fine acidity, lots of smoke, pleasantly salty. Intense aromas but at the same time mild impression on the tongue. The alcohol is very well integrated.
    • Finish
The smoke lingers longer, but it's becoming sweeter and mellower.

Really nice smoke. But not only: Very distillate-driven for its age

    Color: golden yellow
    • Nose

Distillate, smoke, scent of home (stable, shit, manure, dirt), silage, hay, groamet, minerals, vanilla
    • Taste
      90 90
      Malt, sweet sugar, cinnamon
    • Finish
      87 87
Cinnamon, wood, smoke but a short finish

This whisky is a board! This brute and savage I know only of younger Ledaigs and am therefore really surprised how strong the whisky is still after 20 years. He has the potential to polarize. You have to like Ledaig (or Ardbeg) to make this whisky.
    • Nose
      84 84
This is a classic Ledaig: The typical cowshed is fully there. In addition, chemical flavors of plastic are added. You have to like that nose. Of course there is also a lot of smoke to smell and some acid, lemon, chalk, newspaper and vanilla behind.
    • Taste
      87 87
Wow, this whisky has power and now a certain spiciness of chili and ginger, plus a lot of tar! With a few drops, however, this bottling can be tamed a bit.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is very long and there remain the tarry smoke, citrus aromas and a touch of seaweed.
