Successful through and through, complex and excellent.
    • Nose
Intense, compact nose. Citrus, honey. Saline mineral behind. Earthy on the plums. Fine caramelized peat. Floral oak.
    • Taste
Oily, well-wooded palate that rises in aromatic intensity, peat mixes with iodine, then metallic notes arrive to deposit cooked fruit (superb black cherry) on the tongue. It is really good.
    • Finish
Super deep finish on wood encrusted with dry peat. Roasted dried fruits, chocolate oranges. Comforting warmth.

    • Nose
Sweet smoke, coffee, dark wood, a bit of exotic fruits, spicy, a bit meaty.
    • Taste
Smoky, intense, Demerara sugar, dark roast coffee, spicy.
    • Finish
Coffee, dark sugar, salt. Gets a bit spicier and fruitier with water, but loses the intensity.

Always so good, jammy fruits, noble wood, but also vanilla (virgin oak ??). In the mouth we take the same, with perhaps a hint of smoke in addition. Then the sweet spices join the ball. The texture is fluid, the whole being dry enough never to be disgusting. Finally, the very long finish makes the pleasure of fruit and spices last.

Very complex, fruity, drinkable - fantastic!
    • Nose
      91 91
Acacia honey, cooked oranges, fine old wood, hazel nuts, nutmeg, spices, shoe polish, toffee, milk chocolate, jam, dried fruits, whiffs of solvent - very good
    • Taste
      92 92
Punchy, fruity, good sweetness, cooked and dried fruits, prunes, apricots, oranges, fine oak wood, spices, cloves, more hazel nuts, little leather - great
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, warm, more punchy, spicy, little woody, more toffee

  5. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Maraschino cherries, almond, toffee, marzipan, very deep flavours, leather, varnish, cinnamon, no peat though or very feint which is unexpected for a yoichi, still very good

    • Nose
Sherry. Prunes, fruity, apples, earthly notes, peat
    • Taste
      Herbal, liquerice, spicy, parsley, vanilla
    • Finish
Quite long and fine finish. Liquerice, citrusy and spicy.

A very racy, elegant and balanced whisky despite the 58%. Great!
    • Nose
Deep and balanced. Creamy notes appear from the glass accompanied by honey, fruit (very black cherries, strawberries), some sweet spices and notes of smoked wood. It's quite difficult to describe this nose because the scents are quite unusual, but it's really well done.
    • Taste
Powerful. It's always marked by fruits and cream. It reminds me of the sweet fruitella with these strawberry-cherry flavors. The smoke is also present which brings a little drought (not astringency) welcome face creamy. Notes of pepper, clove and cinnamon complete this coherent and very well done.
    • Finish
Pepper, polished wood, clove and cinnamon.

A complex and warm whisky. The notes of cinnamon, orange and chocolate bring me back the moral during tough winter days. And if in addition you add smoke and roses ...
    • Nose
Very complex, powerful on perfumes reminiscent of a scented candle (incense). Floral and woody notes (sherry). Rose, pot pourri, vanilla, old wood, caramel, peat, hot dessert with orange. Just a treat!
    • Taste
Dry attack on the sweet (salty), oily texture. Cinnamon, orange, chocolate (mellow choco / orange, Yum!), Old wood, vanilla, black tea and caramel (with added water).
    • Finish
Very long. Cinnamon, peat, orange (what's Christmas what ?!)

The nose has lots of wood as well as demerara sugar, cardemom and raisins. Rather complex and in the palate(w.w.) we find, more or less, the same but with more fruits like oranges, apples and apricots; beautiful whisky, highly recommended!

    Yoichi 1991/2009 (58%, OB, cask # 129374)

    Copper color
Nose: Floral and fragrant nose, beginner on vanilla, cake and hints of sherry on orange.
It then evolves on fresh and dry fruits as well as beautiful spicy notes.
In the background there is a slight peat on the smoke and camphor.
The addition of water brings out vinous notes and nuts.
Palate: Super sweet / salty attack.
First of all, orange, chocolate, plum and spices, cinnamon and gingerbread.
The mouth then evolves on coffee, iodine and some notes of caramel in the background.
Beautiful oily texture and some notes of rose after aeration.
The finish is persistent on plum and a slight smoke.
    Rating: 91/100
