Through very friendly partners here on whiskybase I received a 100 ml sample of this rather rare Clynelish, from the even rarer but highly renowned bottler SilverSeal.
    THANKS!

My expectations were correspondingly high. Fine, rich red gold or more amber-colored.

Conclusion: Even though it's expensive, I would love to have a bottle like this! It can easily keep up with older Clynelishs!

Unobtrusive, but intense at the same time. It captivates me immediately. Even though I didn't know that it came from my favorite distillery. Definitely older than the dram actually is. Slightly musty, old dry leather. The finely integrated alcohol tickles the nose slightly, then becomes more present at 57.3%; but by no means obtrusive or even unpleasant. Not the waxiness expected from Clynelish, but that doesn't bother me. Overall very dry - sherry? - I'm not sure. I can't detect a particularly intense wood aroma. The 18 years on the label are probably correct after all! The whisky doesn't seem very fruity to me - if anything, then yellow fruits, not very ripe, quinces, young not very sweet pears and yes, maybe a little dates. Pleasant, unobtrusive, complex!

Wonderfully sweet, without overdoing it. Alcohol is not dominant, I don't want to add water. (I did it later anyway - in my opinion it doesn't improve anything.) Wonderful, subtle aromas of herbs, again clearly dry. Not very fruity on the palate either - if anything, more tart yellow fruits. A tiny trace of astringency - or is that just the alcohol? Here too, I can hardly believe the "young" 18 years. Very tasty and wonderful to drink.

Nice and long, herbal, with a not very pronounced hint of dried dates. At the end there is a very slight burning sensation (57.3%) and very subtle dried dates, a pleasant mustiness of a whisky that should really be older. Fine stuff!!!
