0842-LAPHROAIG 11 yo 2006-2017 OLD MALT CASK ISLAY SINGLE MALT HUNTER LAING 50%.
... I like all "Lafroigs". I haven't had many of them, with this version it will be seven. They all kept my level of drinkability. This version is intense, full-bodied. In aroma, as for Laphroig, it is even quite mild (if this expression can be applied to products from Islay), but in taste there are no illusions. Smoky, ash-like, roasted, with an inseparable baked lemon. There is no typical fruity sweetness here, rather a sweetish flavor. This is definitely not a position for beginner "salt-drinkers". Because as is commonly known, you can either love or hate Islay. I profess the former - I love it. Although here we must also apply the principle that not everything that has "ISLAY" on the label has to taste - like a guy with a pitchfork is not Poseidon. This is just my opinion, as I mentioned at the beginning - I may be biased here, it is best to check it yourself
    • Nose
... this is what I like, so I won't be objective. The first thing that comes to my mind is ... Rock Island by Douglas Laing. Coastal climates, salty, a little bit burnt like ... mezcal or tequila. Seaweed, a little soy sauce. I put it aside to check what's in the empty one - here it's closer to the climate of Islay - cold peat smoke, dry, ash-like, burnt oil on a pan with spices. It's thick here, burnt bacon skin, burning thyme thrown on a live fire, a little bit of sourness. Aromatic thick barbecue sauce. Even bitter. I go back to the full - here a trace of fruity sweetness, it smells of warm plasticine or some putty. A lot of cold smoked meat, a trace of anchovy, a specific smell of sesame oil. It's all thick, substantial
    • Taste
... taste of sesame oil, bitter. Baked lemon with a slight sweetness and at the same time acidity. Lots of burnt herbs, burnt bread crust, burnt toast. Here already distinct Islay. Burnt apple baked in ashes. It is undoubtedly fatty, with capers, olives in oil dressing. Brine, tobacco. The whole thing pleasantly warms with its 50 percent strength. Another approach and another - slight sweetness, literally a little. All the time lemon, fire-roasted vegetables sprinkled with lemon. Bitter and smoky BBQ sauce. A tarry taste remains in the mouth for a long time.
    • Finish
... intense, strong, long, ash, burnt spices, caramelized grilled pineapple. Grapefruit albedo or that nutty skin and the inseparable baked lemon.
