Well, how do you rate this Glen Garioch now? He makes power ...

    • Nose
Is that still whisky or even Waldbeerbowle? He lays the color accordingly with very ripe sweet strawberries and cherries going on, to mashed herb-sweet redcurrants and pureed raspberry and gooseberry compote - in short: red fruit jelly from the barrel. That flatters seductively in the nose - had such an intrusive fruity whisky I rarely. An old Strathclyde was so similar to the profile and I like that one quite a bit. Fortunately, there is more to discover besides this berry invasion: cane sugar, a little old tin bowl from Grandma's kitchen cupboard, and then there's plenty of vanilla. All this done in a bowl of rather dry oak. The alcohol keeps very pleasant in the background, provides at best for some cooling freshness in the nose.
    • Taste
The first sip brings no big surprises - sweet and strawberry it goes on seamlessly, here it is mainly sweet strawberry jam with neat vanilla (now a croissant ... hmmm ..) The strong alcohol brings a nice sharpness and warmth and tart tannins the sweetness slows down from the red wine barrel and quickly brings it back to a bearable level. I can not taste a Glen Garioch in all this. And almost I can not taste any whisky. Quite strange, what has ended up in the bottles.
    • Finish
For the age longer than expected. Sweet, sugary, berry and dry than on the palate with a slightly metallic aftertaste. This is where the red wine barrel comes through most.
