Winter solstice in Norway: the perfect time to pop the cork of this 16-year-old Highland Park, distilled in 2001 and matured in sherry butt #651 (58.8% ABV, 588 bottles). What a marvelous color! Is this the blood of Odin? Dried fruits, roasted coffee and whiffs of peat smoke reach the nose, and there are hints of cloves, Jamón serrano and leather. The taste is intense, sweet and mildly peaty with dark chocolate, mint and a dash of salt. Cocoa, licorice and oak spices migrate into the warming and substantial finish. A great Single Malt for long and cold nights!

Nose: hazelnuts, raisins, milk chocolate, dark syrup, canned pears soaked in sugar. Yeah, 16 years in a sherry butt tend to do this to an impressionable thing.

Taste: cinnamon, raisins, canned pears again. Milk chocolate and that syrup. Some sea salt. The hazelnuts are giving way to pecans and brazils. Complex and lovely!

Finish: long and lingering. The sherry influence just keeps on giving.

This is a beauty! Not just another pretty sherry monster, as the coastal influence gives it another level of complexity to play with.

This edition has huge impact from Oloroso cask which is shiny on the nose but a little bit to harsh on the palate.
    • Nose
huge cask impact. Red fruits -currant-, spicy dry ginger, a lot of wood, leather and nuts. Christmas cake and spices plus some vanilla. Very intense aroma, everything is very visible here.
    • Taste
first extremely sweet and then sour. Tart wine, black pepper, currant jam and caramel. Some burned, bitter wood…
    • Finish
blend between spices, red fruits with chocolate in the end. Some bitter tannins are closing this long finish….

    • Taste
      86 86
Heavy mouthfeel. Glue-y. Metallic notes. Christmas spices. Menthol. Vanilla
    • Finish

Bitter development. Still metallic. Spices. Some bitter tannins
