For me, this bottling is one of the best of 2017.

The sample was from Straight-whisky.at, so I could taste this wonderful drop before ordering. In the nose a dense buttility and creaminess, together with the typical Springbank character, this intensifies on the palate and fills the mouth. It was like biting off a fudge that is getting more and more. The finish is long and no less intense. Who has the chance to get a bottle of it, should access!

    • Nose
Marked by sherry, but with maritime accents. Deep, on blackberry and fresh walnut.
With water, more dynamic. Sherry is more noticeable, we also have fruits, including roasted peach. We also find behind the shaft the identity Springbank and smoke smelling soot.
    • Taste
Tip of peat, burnt notes. Rich initially, it is juicier afterwards. Chocolate, but overall austere.
With water, more fluid, scented with delicate spices.
    • Finish
Austere, but round. 99% chocolate. Tannins and dry wood.
With water, more fragrant with hints of currants.

      Enthusiasm 4/5
(except the final without water: 3/5)

      Whisky n ° 2071

Very good, but Jesus H. Christ, that's a lot of sherry influence.
    • Nose
Extremely sherried, with notes of burnt caramel, aceto balsamico and a whiff of gun powder. There's molasses here as well, followed by unfinished cherry wood and lots of dark forest fruits, with finally some raspberry. An attack of the senses for sure.
    • Taste
Thick and oily, with loads of sherry influence, but now also finally some of that lovely Springbank peat and brine. Good to see that the spirit still has a place here (as opposed to the nose), and it's not all cask dominance. Hints of orange too, with plenty of spice to boot. Nutmeg, cloves, black pepper. Again, a whisper of gun powder.
    • Finish
      Lingering spices and sweet sherry.

    Blind tip:
    rum
    sherry cask

I am flat. He reminded me as a fan zero at Springbank. Looking back, most likely to the 12er green thistle. But it did not blow me away either. I think I'm more into the modern on-the-face Springbanks.
    • Nose
Dark chocolate, red dried fruit, oak, wet tobacco, molasses, more rumlastig, orange sweetness, herbs, dry wooden box
    • Taste
Very sweet, oak, molasses, neat heat, dry orange peel, astringent with time
    • Finish
Lots of oak, light bitterness, sweet molasses

Very nice nose and rich sherried palate again but not tiring thanks to the spicy bite. Very good sherried Springbank.
    • Nose
Dried fruits (raisins, prunes), nuts, balsamic vinegar and blackberries. A veil of smoke. With time, a few redberries. Tobacco.
    • Taste
Sharp and sherried. Oranges, redberries, dried fruits, nuts, spices, dark chocolate, coffee, smoke and a pinch of salt.
    • Finish
Long, smoky, spicy and oaky. Lingering sherry notes.

A good sherryd whisky but not a good Springbank. The cask influences are to much, there is very little spirit to detect. Some 'orange Campbeltown' comes trough at some points but that's it.
