[December, 2021] I found this dram in this year's advents calendar...

...and I am not a fan of bourbon or rye whiskey at all - and this dram did not change that legacy. It offers a very different profile to malt whiskey which is interesting to explore (once) but I do not ask for a second serving, sorry Canadians.
    • Nose
      84 84
The colour is yellow gold and the nose offers a rather strange profile for a malt lover that is neither Bourbon-ish nor Scottish. I describe this as somewhat artificial-industrial which maybe is simply due to the fact that I am not used to nose such rye whiskies. It reminds me of new (not used) bandages at hospitals, bread dough, aspirin and some spices. This nose is almost identical to that of its sibling release from 2018 (32-years old).
    • Taste
      83 83
The taste is very bready (rather sour-dough) with lots of spices (mainly chili and peppers) and some (rather industrial) oils. The dominating sugars are industrial ones too (just sweet, nothing else) and not the fine barley sugars I appreciate within malts. Again, this taste is similar to its sibling release from 2012.
    • Finish
      83 83
The initial mouthfeel is hot and coating with some drying moments. The finish is of medium length and turns very sugary-sweet with a drying ending. Water turns the dram more approachable but does not change the profile, finally this tastes more like sugared water than whisk(e)y...
