About Hanyu

Hanyu is a Japanese single malt whisky brand produced at the former Hanyu Distillery in Saitama Prefecture. Founded in 1941 by the Akuto family, the distillery initially made sake and shochu before adding whisky production in the late 1980s. Hanyu closed in 2000, and its remaining casks were acquired by Ichiro Akuto, who later bottled them under the Ichiro’s Malt label, including the highly collectible “Card Series.” Original Hanyu bottlings are rare and sought after by collectors worldwide.
