[February, 2019] I never ever had any above-average Glenkinchie since I started drinking malt whiskies around 25 years ago - but looking at all the high scores for this little baby it seems I found one...

...finally! This is a truly excellent Glenkinchie with an adorable fruity-marzipan-herbal profile that is very interesting to explore and dangerously quaffable. It reminds me (in parts) of the fine old Glenfarclas drams from the same vintage period (not joking)...
    • Nose
      91 91
The colour is deep copper and the nose offers a delicate and balanced profile without off-notes, hooray! It is composed of mainly grassy, nutty and waxy aromas supplemented by some delicious fruits (apricots, peaches, passion fruits) and herbs. After some breathing a rather "medicinal" note joins in that reminds me of opening a first aid kit. Hey, this is pretty interesting and a pleasure to sniff!
    • Taste
      92 92
The taste is very fruity and nicely layered with a firm wooden framework that provides an excellent backbone. Spices, herbs, fresh and stewed fruits, toffee, tobacco and more flavours come and go while I chew this dram for minutes. No flaw or imbalance that I can find, this is extremely quaffable.
    • Finish
      90 90
The dram arrives charming on the palate with a fine warming and coating mouthfeel and some tasty peppery moments. The finish is very long and gets more spicier while the fruits and herbs intermingle into a chutney-alike setting. There is a minor cardboardy-drying moment at the very end. Water releases more delicious aromas in the nose and turns the taste even fruitier, I like this dram both neat and reduced to about 46% abv.
