About Cooley

Cooley is an Irish whiskey brand operating from the Cooley Distillery on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth. Founded in 1987 by entrepreneur John Teeling through the conversion of a disused state potato alcohol plant, it broke the monopoly held by Irish Distillers and revitalized commercial whiskey production outside Dublin. Under the Cooley label, the company released single malt, single grain, and pot still whiskeys—most notably Connemara peated malt and Kilbeggan blend—pioneering new expressions in the modern era. The brand’s independent innovation helped fuel Ireland’s whiskey renaissance until its 2012 acquisition by Beam Inc., now part of Suntory Global Spirits.
