  1. rottendon scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

While the nose was appetizing and aroused great anticipation for the whisky, the palate was rather disappointing. In retrospect, this was unfounded, as it was quite pleasant on the palate; it's just that the profile simply didn't match the nose, which initially led to some frustration, at least for me.

    Notes from a blind tasting.
    • Nose
      89 89
Heavy sherry aromas immediately after pouring, perhaps a hint of smoke, but certainly not much. Primarily dark, heavy sweetness, marzipan-like, a few dried fruits, also some caramel, baked apples, and barrel acidity. Warming the hand brings out herbs and floor wax; overall, warmth emphasizes the less desirable aspects of the bouquet. Once the glass reaches hand temperature, the whole thing actually takes on a slightly nutty quality.
    • Taste
      86 86
Intriguingly, the malt behaves diametrically opposite to its nose on the palate. Instead of sweetness, there's acidity, a slight spiciness, and a touch of bitterness. And while the nose seemed creamy, the mouthfeel is actually rather thin and watery. The initial taste is quite robust, though not overly forceful. The finish becomes increasingly acidic.

On the second sip, one can indeed detect a hint of sweetness, but this merely softens the acidity, which now tastes more like fruit juice. The slight bitterness from the first sip is also no longer present.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish also emphasizes the acidity, along with a slight numbing of the mouth. Overall, it's medium-long, leaving a moderate warming sensation in the chest.

In the second sip, there is actually no change, except that the slight numbness is no longer noticeable.
