5cl miniature, fill level below neck. A H2H with the modern black label, I find this older version has less peat and Sherry cask influence, but delivers a profile that’s performing way beyond any modern 12-year-old.

Creamy vanilla. Starfruit juice, then more citrusy unfolds. Oranges. Toffee. Not until now did the dusty OBE arrive. Earthy rancio. At the base, there are even more fresh citrus fruits. Just a pinch of rock salt.

Oranges open the way to reveal a pinch of crushed peppercorn behind. Then the oak introduced itself with a moderate level of tannin, vanilla, and a touch of bitterness at the back. As it progresses, the bourbon oak influences become more apparent, with honey, golden syrup, and more creamy vanilla. Just a touch of baking spices and black pepper flowing in the background.

Short, moderately dry finish. Mostly just oak and a touch of vanilla lingering. A touch of smoked meat.
