  1. glen efze scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

An unpeated single cask, bottled exclusively for the German importer Rolf Kaspar. The whisky matured in a first-fill Oloroso cask. What makes this bottling special is Ardnamurchan's use of Golden Promise Barley, a barley variety dating back to the 1960s, which was also used in the Heritage Barley Release. This variety has a lower alcohol yield than current varieties, but compensates with a higher concentration of aromas.

    • Nose
On the nose, a nutty, warm grain note stands out pleasantly. Then come pipe tobacco, mango and sweet pineapple, a few dried apricots, some dusty cocoa, and also wood. The alcohol remains in the background but makes its presence known.
    • Taste
At over 60% ABV, this whisky definitely needs a splash of water. The alcohol remains robust, but warm aromas of roasted hazelnuts and caramelized cereal flakes with chocolate also emerge. Added to this is the slightly herbal West Coast note characteristic of Ardnamurchan. There's dark nougat chocolate, and even a few hints of candied orange peel.
    • Finish
The aftertaste begins with the alcohol and a touch of spice on the palate, followed by creamy grain with malty caramel, the dark nougat lingers, along with some roasted nuts and wood that blends in well.

Perhaps the Heritage Barley bottling was fruitier and a bit fresher – but this single cask, with its dark nougat notes, hint of candied orange peel (not candied orange, a bit juicier), and creamy grain notes, is wonderful, a whisky for teatime. The alcohol is a little complex and difficult to manage. Nevertheless, I really like this whisky.
