Nose: The whisky starts malty with a slightly citrusy sweetness and well-integrated spice. Malt, toffee, and flamed oak, along with roasted chestnuts and a touch of milk coffee. Hints of kumquat, licorice, clove, and nutmeg.
Palate: Pleasant mouthfeel, the alcohol very well integrated. Malty, spicy, and more complex than expected. Again the flamed oak, along with roasted walnuts, Ovaltine, a touch of marzipan, and black tea.
Finish: Short to medium-long, somewhat bitter with a slight sweetness, in addition to the aroma of roasted pepper with mild spiciness.
Conclusion: This bottling is a real surprise for me from this gem of Berlin distillery art. The Quinta attempts to incorporate quite a few aromas on the palate, while the finish is somewhat simpler. Overall, it's harmonious and a very fine example of the qualitative development of German whiskies. 84/100 points (2026)
