A wonderfully dignified and old Bunnahabhain. Maritime and yet fruity and earthy, whereby I associate earthy rather wet forest soil, loamy earth and peat. The wonderful citrus flavors combined with menthol and eucalyptus provide a varied opposite pole. I like it very much!

    • Nose
Light amber shines velvety in the Premium Snifter, thick and tough "legs" are released in slow motion from the streaks adhering to the glass wall. Dried fruits rise, old apricots blend with dark mirabelles and sugar candy to form a sweet, yet old, solid nose. Grated apples and subtly sweetened apple sauce are added, whole milk chocolate is released from emerging citrus flavors. Hints of old lemons and a few sprinkles of pink grapefruit juice end in caramelized sugar and a hint of toffee. In the meantime, a multitude of oily and greasy "legs" stick to the glass wall, not only olfactory but also visually, the Bunna really makes you hungry for the first sip!
    • Taste
The first sip flows relatively flat through the mouth, but immediately unfolds its dark, tart and subtly sharp aroma in the entire mouth area. A pinch of white pepper and coarsely ground sea salt dissolves from dry and tart wood tones, dark apples and apricots end in a tart citrus note. Earthy clay and peat soils are noticeable, wet leaves decay with branches on damp forest soil. A wonderful mixture of maritime notes mixes with "wet forest" and slightly smoky peat. The second sip flows again gently and gently over the tongue, leaving a sweet film of caramel, sugar and old vanilla. Seconds later, the dark forest feeling comes back in combination with salt and subtle sharpness. This time, acidic citrus flavors come into their own, lemons and grapefruit play with each other and end in caramelized sugar and minimally peaty wood. All the while there is a wonderfully fresh menthol and eucalyptus note in the background.
    • Finish
The fresh notes of menthol and eucalyptus move dominantly into the foreground at the beginning of the aftertaste, only gradually do the salty and wooden elements come into play again. Minimally smoky peat, decaying citrus aromas, fading sweetness slowly indicate the end of the aftertaste. Soil and peat are remembered as slightly mineral, as are subtle brine and dry wood. A slight hint of walnut sticks to the palate ...
