Kilchoman 2011

Very oaky, dark dark chocolate, too bitter for my taste. Smoke rather discreetly in the background, opens slightly with water, then better. 78 points. No comparison to Sanaig, Loch Gorm, Port, Sauternes or Germany Bottlings, which I personally all above the 90-point mark. I really like Kilchoman, but this one is out of the ordinary. After an hour in the glass a bit more fruity and more pleasant with water, then after a long time at once a noticeable smokey finish, 82 points, summing up to 80 points, not more. Update: A few weeks after opening, the whisky has developed positively: bitter notes are more in the background in favor of the sweetness, the smoke appears a little more clearly, but much weaker than the Loch Gorm. Dry camp fire smoke lingers for a long time in the finish. Now neat 85 points.
