Miyagikyo

Miyagikyo is the single malt whisky brand of Nikka Whisky Distilling Co., produced at Miyagikyo Distillery in the Miyagi Prefecture. Founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1969 as the company’s second site, it lies in a forested valley at the meeting of the Nikkawa and Hirose rivers. The brand’s range of single malt expressions is crafted to contrast with those of Nikka’s coastal Yoichi distillery, emphasizing the influence of the region’s seasonal climate and volcanic-filtered water. Through Miyagikyo, Nikka offers an alternative chapter in Japan’s whisky heritage, rooted in its distinct natural environment.
