So, when I score whisky, I use a 100 point scale. I divide the points in Nose, Palate and Finish in a 40/35/25 cut . I tend to be quite moderate handing out scores, and have yet to find the 100 points one. 

0-50 Sub-par whisky, 51-70 Drinkable, nothing special, 71-85 Quite good, worth a try, 86-90 Really good dram, get a bottle, 91-95 Hot damn, delicious juice, 96-99 As good as it gets, this is what it's all about, 100 Once in a lifetime

Not a big fan of smoke bombs, but lean towards more subtle notes, especially whiskies from Speyside and Highlanders. Oh, and a few Lowlanders as well. It took me one decade two establish my preferred flavour profile, and one more decade to crystalize my favourite distillery.
