During my recent visit to Rotterdam for the 2018 Gathering, I finally had the opportunity to visit the Whiskybase Shop near the city center. Only a few minutes walk from Metro station ‘Stadthuis’, the shop is nestled in a quiet, little side road. I’d call it a ‘geek’s paradise’, a place that embraces you with its welcoming atmosphere, tranquility and the nice selection and presentation of bottles on the shelves.
All whisky regions and countries are covered, be it Single Malt, Blend, Bourbon or international spirit. Independent bottlings include the Whiskybase Archives series, and there is a variety of open bottles available for tasting on site. Granted, the prices are a bit higher than your average online retailer, but that is more than compensated by the staff’s outstanding service and passion for the water of life.
After I tasted one of the Archives new Springbank bottlings, I regretted that space in my baggage was limited, and I had already purchased half a dozen of bottles to take home. I will definitely return to the shop when I am in Rotterdam in the future, and I can only recommend you to do the same.
