My first Glenlivet ever. No real complaints for the price, no real wow factor as well (still holding on to an unopened 2016 bottling of the Nadurra for the time being).

Today I bought a minituare equal to the one pictured above for 5 euros. I suspect this is quite an older release compared to the 2019 Double Oak (almost 10 years inside this tiny bottle??).

Intact miniature, perfect fill-level, reliable spirits retailer. It sort of has that old school vibe that I recall from scotish blends from the early 2000s when I was a kid and stole a tiny sip here and there out of my grandmother's cabinet (RIP).

78 is a decent score in my book, especially when it comes to budget single malts, so this one makes me want to try other Glenlivets (I actually like their delicate and austere house-style after this sample, just not how it is delivered overall).
    • Nose
      81 81
Quite a nice nose, very fuity (both fresh and stewed). Light fruits join redder fruits, the malt is present and the wood is both spicy and damp, yet always delicate. Honey and bright citrus notes, distant scent of freshly cut grass and chocolate. Very candy sucrose a good 20 minutes after pouring. Very acceptable nose, actually quite enjoyable, even if not fit for deep exploration.
    • Taste
      78 78
Decent oiliness, sweet and sour arrival, then quite an intense development for a mainstream bottom-proof 12 year-old. The sensations are present and make this enjoyable, but there are little to no distinguishable flavors. Honey and apples, some malt and oak, industrial caramel and a light acetone touch. That's basically it, and I still kind of like it (great mouthfeel for what I paid).
    • Finish
      76 76
Short, almost non-existent but not offensive at all. The oak prevails through pepper flavors, some malt and dried fruits, more bottled caramel (very faint here in the finish). Cannot complaint for 5 euros, no regrets at all.

Its time for a Glenlivet-off. Four 12yo’s: ’Pure’, ’Unblended’, G&J Smith green, G&J Smith red, a 15yo and an 18yo to conclude.
N: Not too many surprises here, its familiar to me as any standard Glenlivet: clean, elegant and tamed. Most of the expressions I’ve had from Glenlivet seem well blended/presented and generally satisfying in their class. Descriptors - light, seasoned cereal with dried fruit malt with soft oak maturation all the way.
T: Starts off without a hitch, grassy, malty notes, but doesn’t stretch out as hoped. Its rather restrained with a,… ooh wait, its a ‘meh’ moment
    F: Bitter<fresh, peppery/sage leaf, putty=caramel finish. Concludes accordingly.
C: The nose is superb, but what follows is fair but nothing to trouble say the current batches of Glen Grant 10 [2015]. Could be a different matter if bottled at the more ‘flavour optimal’ 46% - more on that later!
