  1. Noface83 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Intense and very good - the best Ardbeg in recent years and definitely much more mature, complex and better than the 5 series. Also a clear step up to the TEN. Would say on a level with the Ugi and Corry and therefore fairly priced. Fortunately, it will be readily available for a longer period of time so that you can drink it with friends and then simply buy more. The finish is especially great.
    • Nose
      89 89
Intense and slightly biting smoke on the nose, nice sweetness (juice from canned fruit mixture), toffee and light honey notes, something sour (malt vinegar), lots of spice (pepper, anise and clove), a touch of onion juice, heavily charred oak. After a while, dried herbs are added and I imagine I have some Oloroso sherry as well
    • Taste
      86 86
Intense - peppery hot, again the aniseed and a slight sweetness like lemon cake with a little too much acid, hay mixed with dried herbs (like guinea pig feed), extremely strong notes of warm, biting campfire smoke and coal.
    • Finish
      90 90
The finish is heavy, first a fresh menthol note and chilli catch then it becomes incredibly dry with a little sherry sweetness and toffee. But the smoke and the wood hit pretty quickly. Tar and extremely burned out barrels are left behind for a very long time. Even the dryness remains and pulls the spokes out of all pores. Once you get used to the smoke, there is a slightly nutty-sweet Oloroso note. Even hay and yes fennel come back at the very end.
