I liked this very much, but the London 2020 edition had a bit less obvious palate - less straight up malt barley and more complexity and fullness - and the nose here was just a touch too obviously oaked for me, and I favor the London 2020 as a result.
    • Nose
Oily citrus - kumquats. Cedar forest in Autumn. Apple brine and some oak and char. Kilned wood. Some canola oil. Charred lemons, yellow plums. Some tea. There is something tart, it reminds me of a white wine, which is something the London 2020 Edition also had to it. As it opens there is some fullness and volatility, a bit of not fully ripe banana and coconut. There is some thin smoke here too, slightly medicinal, slightly farmy. As it opens some more lemon and green grapes and guava. I love guava.

With water there is a burst of ripe peaches and nectarines and the wine heads towards a less austere white - a Sauv. Blanc maybe. There is a touch of something like anise, just a touch, and maybe some cadamom. Some faint lanolin, more guava, and something a bit floral, like jasmine. A hint of wax.

I find the changes and ripening of the fruit to be a bit like Bruichladdich that I have tasted, but with the lactic funk replaced with a tight, tart, acidity from a nice white wine.

The only qualm I have with this nose is that sometimes the oak is a little too obvious as oak rather than guava, char or more complex additive flavors.
    • Taste
There is a slight brine and sweet and very light tobacco-ish smoky peat. Malt, vanilla and barley sugar, green peaches and gooseberries, some unripe raspberries a bit of powdered sugar. With water a rounder flavor, ripened fruit but not as sweet and less briney.
    • Finish
Vanilla and butter cookies, some pebbles, brine and sancerre wine. With water it is toastier, sugared. Less sancerre and more like a chardonnay.
