About The Whisky Connoisseur

The Whisky Connoisseur was an independent bottler operating under Scotland Direct, a mail-order business founded in 1973 by Arthur J. A. Bell. Best known for its pioneering single-cask bottlings of the 1990s and 2000s, the company enhanced its mystique through creative pseudonymous label names (such as Largiemeanoch for Bowmore and Miltonhaugh for Balmenach) rather than identifying the source distillery. Its rare, highly regarded whiskies—including aged Speyside, Islay, and Highland malts—have retained a cult following among collectors. The operation ceased bottling activity around 2011, and Bell passed away in 2015.
