Nose

Smoky jaffa cakes. Bit of a honeyed malt character. Woodspice, cloves and nutmeg. Light, creamy vanilla. Peach cobbler.

Taste

Dry grass. Brush fire. Sour malt. Bitter wood. Honey. Very dry wood tannins. Generic candy note right at the end.

Finish

Medium. Bitter malt. Dry wood and light wood smoke.

Comments

I can’t remember the older version well enough to be able to make a good comparison (that’s part of the reason why I started taking tasting notes), but I really did enjoy this one. It didn’t have a huge range of flavours, but the ones it had were quite nice. There was quite a nice mix of sweet, savoury and smoky to it. For the normal retail price it’s quite a good buy.

Color
Deep copper
Nose

Apricot, apple, vanilla and pastry. I have to admit that it has a nice nose for a blend.

Taste

More smoky. Apple, vanilla, malt, caramel and spice.

Finish

Now the peat is really most dominant. Dry, nutty. Not that fruity anymore, only some apple.

Comments

Whisky fans are generally not very positive about Johnnie Walker, but I have to say that I've always found the Green Label a decent whisky and it still is.

Nose

Leicht phenolischer Rauch.

Finish

Mittellang mit ner Espressobitterkeit

N- While the familiar charred malts and cheesy note are still there with the whiff of smokes. This is much earthier compare to previous batch.

T- Fruity cherry, layers of wood shavings, solid mouthfeel but still gentle on the palate.

F- Short, smooth entry with prickly charred noted emerged, frizzy and woods lingers.

A showdown between Colin Dunn vs Joe Clark. Three drams each, blind. Colin 's No.#1

N: Bitter=sweet and raisiny - a bit Dalmore-esque. Smells like a large vatted single malt, oily with a little peat, banana bread and biscuity. Well matured/aged, middle of the road dram.

T: Despite the bitter=sweet on the nose it's savoury<sour that commands attention on the palate. Dusty, dry-sour on arrival which doesn't really cut it for me, but it's working better into the finish.

F: Fades - chalky dry & dusty with white pepper raisins [another one for the cookbook]. A chewy 'meh' at the end - like a pasty mash if you will

C: It's ok but it doesn't rock my world. Let's try Joe's no.#1: WB
