Nose

Oranges, lots of cinnamon (I mean A LOT!), hints of clove, "christmas". A pleasant nose, but lacking the Auchentoshan character.

Taste

Sweet beginning, then a little more dry. Cinnamon again, developing into a more spicy direction. The sherry casks give some notes of dried fruits, mostly plum comes to mind. I like it, but again: This is supposed to be a Lowland Malt?

Finish

Cinnamon stays quite a while, dry and a slight bitterness.

Comments

Final Thoughts: I really want to like this whisky. I like the nose and taste, it fits this season. So a "5/7" or "6/7"? No. There a couple of things I don't like about the Three Wood: colouring, chill-filtration, 43% ABV. But most importantly: This one doesn't taste like Auchentoshan or Lowlands. There is nothing light about it, I can't find the typical Auchentoshan nots like grapefruit. The sherry casks are dominant here.

Final Score: 4/7

did taste this one a year ago and I did not really like it back then. but I got my hands on a bottle the last days and the experience was much better!

sweet, dark fruits, Sherry, spices from casks, the finish is not too long but still all right, this is a nice and decent dram!

N- Farmy with a whiff of earth to start. Dark cherry with dusty spices, cinnamon, caraway powder, incense wood, as well some chocolate, vanilla and plums. Herbal tea and white wood that compliment well with the oily and nutty texture.

P- Expresso with dash of dark fruits jam. All is fine until it develop to some burnt notes, bitterness of over grilled meat, under ripe tart fruits, with root herbs emerged.

F- Medium, herbs, rough sweetness and woody. It was noticed that indeed there are huge differences between batches.
