Octomore 5y 06.3 64%

Nase:

Nose

Rich, buttery peat. Farmy. A hint of spice and mild sweetness.

Taste

Strong, oily arrival. Sweet and rich peat and subtle smoke. Honey, spice, buttery and farmy.

Finish

Long and spicy-sweet. Rich peat and farm notes prevail with a long finish.

Comments

Fabulous whisky. Powerful but also balanced with sweet and well-mannered peat. Great dram!

Nose

Chesse crackers, cork and leather to begin with. Quite a beast. Maraschino cherries in a barn on fire, then tons of various citrus fruits : sweet lemon jelly, bitter grapefruit, pomelo, ... Still very farmy with red cabbage, rotten bananas and tomato concentrate (yes), but also very Islay with driftwood and green pepper. Quite complex !

Taste

Very intense, evaporates on the lips. Smoked oranges and black tea, leather and drity old iron, sloe berry, huge pepper ... Very spicy indeed, with added notes of liquorice, origano and rosemary. There are many notes that hint at a very good aged gin actually.

Finish

sappy and earthy, very drying upon swallowing but soon to come back on sweeter treats like ashy citrus fruits, cinnamon, brown bread, ... seems eternal. Very evolutive : 20 minutes later we're still under notes of burning hay, lavender, and gin indeed.

Comments

Beastily good and a complexity/age ratio unmatched to date.

Nose

Taste

Enorme Süße mit kräftigem Lagerfeuerrauch.

Finish

Lang und stark wärmend. Regt den Speichfluss enorm an. Gegen Ende angenehm bitter.

Comments

Nicht besonders komplex aber trotzdem eine Wucht. (91/100)

Nose

smoke, peat, peat,peat...

when you get through the initial boldness there are lots of sweetness and some lemon, very nicely balanced.
Taste

Without water the alcohol of course make it very peppery, then the smoke and peat so thick it feels like you have to chew it, a little salty and surprisingly also quite some bittersweet fruit.

Finish

Herbs and spices, some sweet chocolat notes before the peat take over again, it covers the mouth and stays for ages.

Comments

I loved the 06.2, this is even better.

Not your everyday dram, but what a challange to the sences.
