Nose

Rowan jam, arrack-punch, raisins, dates, some cherries and chocolate-fudge.

Taste

Sweet and luscious, toffee, cherries, something parfumy, stingy-sweet and sour. Very nice.

Finish

Middle long and sweet with fruity toffee.

Comments

This is quite okay, though I like the heavily sherried single casks much more.

Nose
Based on sampling at a friend's. The sherry's heavier than in 12,15 or 18yo OBs, and covers the alcohol very well even when nosing it undiluted. The smell is deeper than A'bunadh's, and I'd guess this is a PX cask [not entirely correct, turns out it's a vatting of Oloroso and PX]. Nosed neat: A bit of nail polish, not much wood, dates, sugar and something a bit fatty which I guess will round out with water. Neat it's just too punchy so I'll add 2 teaspoons of water. Now there's the smell of fresh paint from a metal can followed by a bit of dough, wet clay, and for some odd reason I'm reminded of the smell of unwrapping the kind of a hamburger you'd get from a grill stand at 4am. It is a very good nose, very even and well defined.
Taste
This one can and should take a lot of water. It's a total waste as long as the mouth stays vicious and burning but water opens it up. And what a body it is now: soft, but neither slick nor silky. Rather it's like plush on tongue and very, very juicy. Dark chocolate, liquorice and a good dose of sherry in a very condensed, powerful hit.
Finish

Delightfully lasting and full compared to Glendronach 12,15, 18 or 21. The way it lingers is very satisfying.

Comments

In my opinion more impressive than Batch 2. Not as good as the best single casks but still deserves recognition as a high quality malt.

Sherry, dried glue, hazelnut, orange zest, dates, sugar candy, plums, chocolate, dried fruits.

Taste

Sweet sherry, rasins, plums, sugar candy, orange zest.

Finish

Medium to long. Sherry, dry, gingerbread.

Comments
Great job on this CS Glendronach. The pallet is telling you about it's age when you are accustomed to older CS versions. Nevertheless quite a good job.
Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10 (2016)

Nose

Komplexes Sherry Aroma. Kandierte Früchte, Rosinen, Orangenschalen und etwas Honig. Vielschichtig und sehr angenehm. Der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden und hintergründig kommt eine schöne Vanillenote der Eiche durch.

Taste

Sherry, Pflaumen, dunkle Schokolade, Rosinen.

Nose

A rich nose with huge notes of dried fruits, dates, and raisins. Lingering flavours of butterscotch arrive, combined with chocolate, caramelised ginger, orange peel, subtle cinnamon and a delicate touch of walnuts as well. Deep and very appealing.

Taste

Bold and intense. Very sweet on the palate with delicious sherry-derived flavours, dates and raisins. Sweet notes of caramel and demerara sugar are very well balanced with slightly bitter aromas of orange peel and pink grapefruit. Creamy, even silky with chocolate and a lovely spiciness derived from oak, white pepper, ginger and nutmeg. Absolutely delicious.

Finish

A wonderfully long and sweet finish with rum-coated raisins, cocoa powder and delicate walnut notes, with a whiff of cardamom in the aftertaste. Great balance.

WITH WATER: Water increases the creaminess on the nose with more spices, and additional tobacco leaves and tender leathery notes coming through. On the palate more bitter notes of pink grapefruit and orange peel arrive which work quite well with the sweet and spicy profile. The finish is a bit shorter with warm and vibrant spices. Very pleasant and slowly fading nutty flavours.

Comments

The very first batch of GlenDronach's Cask Strength range is rich, intense and full of flavour with an impressive balance. A wonderful whisky with lovely notes of sherry, raisins, caramel, chocolate and spice. A delightful dram with incredible depth. Another perfect expression of the unique GlenDronach character.

notes from whisky fun :

Glendronach ‘Cask Strength’ (54.8%, OB, batch 1, 2012)

Glendronach ‘Cask Strength’ (54.8%, OB, batch 1, 2012) Five stars This is a brand new one and a vatting of oloroso and PX casks. I know Glendronach isn’t officially a Speysider but I think it does behave like a Speysider. Ahem. Colour: amber. Nose: … and yet a very similar profile, I wouldn’t say that the PX brought much more roundness and sweetness – so far. So a lot of dried fruits again, Corinthian raisins, rich tobacco, chocolate, bacon, mint… and quite some fresh walnuts as well (skins). With water: more leather, game and tobacco (cigar humidor) as well as whiffs of black truffles. Mouth (neat): now it’s sweeter, and quite unusual too. Oh, and rather brilliant. Starts quite nervous, on pink grapefruits and ginger tonic, before some beautiful notes of tangerine liqueur and gingerbread join in the dancing. Absolutely lovely. With water: more bitter oranges and more ‘greenness’ (herbs, chlorophyll) that go very well with this profile. Finish: long, creamy, not cloying at all. Great balance. More black raisins, cocoa powder and cardamom in the aftertaste. Comments: well, it seems that they did it again. Big yet impressively balanced. Not too sure about the price but it’ll probably be a bargain. SGP:562 - 91 points
