I drunk a 2013 [35cl] bottle of the ‘105’ in Thailand recently and really fell for it. Drinking whisky in the heat isn’t always the most desirable but this 105 and 26 degree heat at night combined perfectly. The joys for me were the form and all that chocolate. I quickly opened another ‘105’ on my return, from 2006 WB.

Nose

Das, was man erwartet.

Finish

Lang auf Sherrynoten und Eiche, gegen Ende schön viel Tabak.

Comments

Man bekommt, was man erwartet. Die Nase hat einen ungewöhnlichen Schwefel-Touch, ansonsten ist es ein kräftiger, würziger Sherrydram. Wenig überraschendes, aber toll gemacht.

Man this is something special. I had a wee complaint about the harshness of the regular 105s but this one bottled after 20 years seems about right. And sherries just need to be this strong.

Tasting Notes by Glenfarclas

Strong, rich oak, a 20 year old copper still. As 105 should be! Big powerful aromas, be wary, it is 60% vol.

A typical Glenfarclas nose with Demerara sugar and figs. The last bit of a Christmas cake, a little drier than the middle but you get the extra sugar. More sweetness in the front of your mouth giviing way to bitter sweetness. Chocolate covered coffee beans spring to mind. Sweet then melting into bitterness. Lots of fruit and brandy flavours apparent.

Lovely long finish, the age really coming through here over the strength, definately a dram to savour as the finish will last a very long time.

Conclusion, another great addition to the '105' family along with the 105 and 105 40 Years Old.

Limited edition of 4000 bottles.

Toffee, caramel, and dried fruit. There's more of a perfumy floral quality here than there was on the standard 105. Not as robust as I'd have expected, but still nice. Oxidative sherry note, honey, syrup, and vanilla. (with water) a bit non-descript, honey, praline pie, more dried fruit nibs, vanilla, and subtle baking spices

Taste

very hot -- still discernible flavors of honey, bitter coffee, wood, and some red fruits. Maybe some water will open this up. (with water) rather straightforward. More honey, wood, and a limited amount of fruit and... this is a very Scotchy scotch. Yep, these notes are very helpful, aren't they?

Finish

fine and pleasing, but unexceptional. The regular 105 was more dynamic, even if this had a longer finish on coffee. I'm surprised how subdued this was at points and thought that this really might have opened up with greater complexity with water.
