- Single Cask 24 yr old Tullie from North Star Spirits. Bought December 2020 for £90. A number of reviews on Whisky Fun for 1993 Tullies at this age. An unusual Malt. Very much in the light/ delicate region of the Whisky Flavour Map. No breadiness or cardboard in this - but it does initially present as a much younger whisky - so light on the Cask influence given its age . Spirity, fruity, - reminds me a of a young 8-10yr old Clynelish. Given a chance to breath and oxygenate it develops some playful complexity - not one to rush - as its nuances could easily be overlooked and missed. Nose: sharp spirity nip, spent oak - but with patience - delicate marmalade, icing sugar, perfumes, refresher sweets, fruit salads, distinct pear and apple notes come and go, plying hide and seek with some linseed putty. In the mouth: spirity, fresh, lovely herbal bitter dry tang - with chilli heat, more quality dark chocolate (70% Cocoa!) fruits and more classic 'whisky flavours' developing on the palette. The finish is delightful: long and lingering, more dark bitter chocolate, but also some more familiar whisky notes - in this case sherries - dry fino sherry with a delicate nuttiness and traces of oak spice.
