  1. Goethe scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Compared to the previous Glenmorangie Astar this one works on the nose almost like the old one. On the palate you got also almost the same impressions but this never version is more dry and spicy although we got a lower ABV here. The new versions seems to be a bit younger and edgy.Concerning price/performance ratio: 6/10
    • Nose

    • Taste
Sweet fruits, candy sugar, citrus, honey, burned pears, coconut, pepper, vanilla, ginger, spicy and dry.
    • Finish
Short to medium. Dry with sweet oak and caramel.

Bright bourbon nose from the start, sweet, vanilla, but then all this goes away, and maltiness comes to the fore, the taste is dense, strong, conditionally barrel strength makes itself felt, very good for the current winter weather

  3. Kovalyoff scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Good. A drop of water helps - I recommend.
Nose: pleasant, bourbon, sweet, monponier ...
Taste: pleasant, light, despite the degree, summer drink
Aftertaste: average duration, without bright taste sensations.

    NOSE
Musty oak, honey, dried orchard fruit, nutmeg, wax beans, aloe vera and touches of vanilla, caramel and banana taffy.

The musty dryness is so unique, especially in Glenmorangie. I’ve never experienced it in any other Glenmo, it would stick out like a sore thumb in a blind tasting.

    PALATE
Musty oak, honey, dried orchard fruit, nutmeg, wax beans, aloe vera and touches of vanilla, caramel and banana taffy.

A straight carbon copy of the aroma. It doesn’t happen often, but I’m not picking up any substantial difference between the two. Palate might be a touch sweeter (fruity) but that’s about it.

    FINISH
Medium -> Musty oak, dried orchard fruit, malt and caramel.

This is the updated version of the Glenmorangie Artisan Cask. The Astar surprises with vanilla, oak and sweet malt. With its strong 57.1% vol. It has enough reserves to dilute with a little still water.
    • Nose
Caramel and Creme Brulee. In the background there is a hint of menthol, some cinnamon and coconut.
    • Taste
Delicate and silky soft. Apples and pears followed by hazelnuts and caramel.
    • Finish
      Medium length and soft.

Peach color. It is not too much oily.
    • Nose
      88 88
Full, intense, rich, volatile, sweet. Enjoyable. Ripe yellow fruit. Peaches. Honey. Peaches in honey. Vanilla and caramel in the background.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet. Lots of honey. Caramel. Very intense and full. Cinnamon. A trace of peaches.
    • Finish
      86 86
Full, intense. Cinnamon. Honey. Caramel. At the end, a little cocoa comes out. Long finish. Lots of spices.

    • Nose
Pleasant, soft. Vanilla, malt motifs, wood dust, cream fudge, fruit lollipops, broken branch, green grass, exotic fruits, Duchess lemonade, sweet pastries, light perfumery. 23
    • Taste
Moderate, moderately sweet. Black pepper and other spices, milk toffee, tropical fruits, bitter bitterness, wood tannins. 22
    • Finish
Rather, short, smoothly fading, wood tannins dominate, with a touch of menthol added at the end. 20
Tasty, very strong representative of ex-bourbon exposure, although the finish line was a bit disappointing. Balance 21

Nice surprise from a NAS. I am quite sceptic about this type of bottling, but few editions are more than good. This is one of those few, best Glenmorangie millenial so far.
    • Nose
      87 87
Forest of spruce, lemons and oranges, candies
    • Taste
      89 89
Powerful and compact. Great touch of smoke, maybe coming from selected batches or simply from a perfect peat
    • Finish

      Intense peated wood. Long.

Jim Murray has awarded 93 points to the Astar. "This is one of the maltiest of all their range, tough the lightness of touch means that any bitterness can be too easily detected."

  31. dramspotter scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

First tasting is a blind tasting. Second was a tasting knowing what it was. Not being much of a Glenmorangie fan this one rather won me over. It is quite accomplished with its lacings of berry fruit in amongst the more citric fruity fare. Possibly one to use against those who will never normally touch Glenmorangie.
    • Nose
      (1) sweet, sherbet, dry coconut, lychee

      (2) slightly sappy, deep fruit salad notes like berries
    • Taste
      (1) soft, fruity

      (2) fruit but goes a little dry
    • Finish
      (1) not long enough (short->medium)

      (2) medium; touch of heartburn with the dryness, fresh fruit - lemons, some blackcurrant come back at the end with lip smacking

  32. ctu scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Slightly weaker and younger, but more fruitier than the previous batch.
    • Nose
Floral. Honey, vanilla and citruses. Big fruits: pineapple, banana and apricot. Coconut and purple acacia.
    • Taste
Powerful, sweet and spicy. Ginger and pepper. Milk caramel and fruits, mostly pear.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet, oaky.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Typical Glenmorangie: all sorts of bright fruits, apples, pears, apricots, very sweet, of course, vanilla, honey and powdered sugar. Subliminally shows fine minerality and subtle floral notes, grain-like and compact. The alcohol is well integrated.
Mouth: Powerful start, in principle as in the scent, not quite as sweet, but with a comparable aroma structure. Rather wiry in style, strong but very well integrated alcohol, with time it will be more herbal with citrus-like accompaniment.
Finish: Long, but slightly bland, with cereals, fruit bowls and vanilla.
Conclusion: Rather simply knitted, but of good quality. Not as complex and as good as the 2008 version https://whiskycuse.wordpress.com/
