[November, 2017] I had this dram during a community tasting "Clash of the Celts" with 5 pairs of Irish vs. Scotch whisk(e)y. This Connemara (bought in 2017) was paired with the most recent Laphroaig Cairdeas https://www.whiskeybase.com/whiskies/whiskey/96855/laphroaig-cairdeas. Out of 32 attendees 11 voted in favour of the Connemara and 12 in favour of the Laphroaig (9 voted for a draw).
In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5. My notes state a mainland peaty profile (missing the maritime notes) that is nicely balanced with the sweet and fruity flavours of the Irish whiskey. More mature than expected, actually pretty good for a NAS edition. The finish is long and without any flaws. I like it!
This is best bang for your bucks these days!
