Decent stuff, just not exactly at its peak yet. I feel this might've benefited from a few more years of maturation. But then again, what do I know...
    • Nose
Big on the sherry. Dry. Cocoa powder, dark chocolate. Water brings out notes of vanilla, pastry and peaches. Opens up well.
    • Taste
Syrupy arrival, with cherries and brown sugar. Quite spicy though, lots of pepper, a good amount of cloves, as well as some cinnamon. This is fairly immature still. Water does make it a bit more accessible.
    • Finish
      Drying, dark chocolate and cherries.

Definitely one of the stranger whiskies I’ve tried. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes strange whiskies can be very very good, but for me this one was just too far in the opposite direction of the strange I like.

Tasted as part of the 2017 BTC
    • Nose
Juniper. Cucumber. The bad knockoff of fanta. Grapes. White rum type fruity notes.
    • Taste
Spicy, salty notes, then very rich sweet fruits. Blueberries. Somewhat creamy. Hints of bitter oak..
    • Finish
Medium. Bitter oak. Bitter fruits. Anise. Licorice pastilles.

Young and aggressive, but very to my liking. Tasted a sample on day nine of the US Blind Tasting Competition 2017. My guess was an Auchentoshan 10-yo @ 59,8%. I identified it as an Auchentoshan by the septic note in the nose.
    • Nose
Sharp, wine, septic, ripe red fruit, plastic, some leather, some salt
    • Taste
Sweet, ripe red fruit, some coconut, nuts, leather
    • Finish
Medium long, not bitter, not drying. Wine soaked red fruit dies slowly on the back of the tongue. Waves of leather in the back of the throat. Salty on the sides of the tongue.

  6. KayMeertens scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
First mainly sauerkraut. Plum, nutmeg, paprika crisps, curry and candied cherry. Then ginger cake. Water breaks down the sulphur a bit and releases some apple.
    • Taste
Weird. Nutmeg, fig liquor, curry, paprika powder, plum and toffee. Dog cookies (not that I've ever tasted them).
    • Finish
Nutmeg, curry, cherry, mocha, caramel and smoke.
