N: Shiny bourbon-y, rounded honey cereal malt with that same sweaty saltiness and some garage oil – the oils releasing with water.
T: Big, direct arrival with some green notes and some dunnage-y bourbon depth.
F: Cream soda and a lingering inherent raisin quality, with a coppery-ness coming through at the final hurdle.
    C: Like the 12yo on heat, though £80 for a 10yo feels steep. The official 12yo is currently £26.Scores a C

This was a very active young dram. I did find it a little one-dimensional but the mixture of light fruits and those chilli and pepper notes kept it a bit interesting, quite a unique one.

Tasted as part of the 2017 BTC
    • Nose
Creamy vanilla. Paraffin. Balsa wood. Lemon zest. Dried pineapple. Sandalwood oil. Red chilli sauce. Pepper.
    • Taste
Very dry wood. More chilli sauce. Light fruits, apples, pears, hints of banana. White pepper. Liquorice pastilles.
    • Finish
Long. Dry. Pepper sauce. Light wood. Fruit salad in syrup.

A high alcohol percentage doesn't have to be a problem, but this is just a bit too much. I don't mind adding water to whisky, but I don't think it should be almost obligated.
    • Nose
Quite sweet and enticing, although it does need to open up a bit more. Sweet barley, wine gums, stewed apple, and there's some dry apple cider in here as well. Water makes it sweeter, more candy-esque and more vanilla.
    • Taste
Powerful arrival, no doubt because of the high alcohol percentage. Water is pretty much obligated to tame this. Vanilla, nutty (almonds), some subtle spices as well (nutmeg), and milk chocolate too.
    • Finish
Lingering spices, before returning to a fruitier profile.

    • Nose
Vanilla pudding and apple but also very 'green' / floral. Cactus? More zesty with water.
    • Taste
Vanilla, strawberry, apple and cactus. Sometimes more like a bourbon than like a bourbon-matured malt. Water releases a sour candy note.
    • Finish
      Crême brûlée and raspberry.

A beautiful Pulteney from the ex-Bourbon barrel with the classic fruit and vanilla notes. The nose is in my opinion the best. Unfortunately, the finish is intense, but relatively short.

Swims well. It mellows for sure. More citrusy with water. But less grapefruit, if that makes any sense. Some spicyness appears as well. You definately need to be patient and play around with water perhaps, to get the most out of this one. A fine dram. 87-88 p.
    • Nose
Strong initially. Alcohol. Give it some time! Oak influence. Moss. Ctrusy. Marzipan. Vanilla. Eucalyptus. Apple. And perhaps hay with time
    • Taste
Strong again. Barrel influence. Oily. Vanilla, Marzipan.
      Apple.
    • Finish
Long finish. Citrusy. A tad metallic.
