N: Whoa, this is much nicer than my [2020] bottle, on the nose at least. The profile talks of husky soft toffee-d chocolate with boozy fruit pieces. That’s what I always loved about the 105, the fruity chocolate.

T: With a moderate salivating mouthfeel [diluted], there’s the 105 I know and like. It is a little young/chemical-y, but nothing like my recent bottle.

F: Certainly more than a touch raw/green, but in the main, the soft-toffee & chocolatey nature still applies.

C: Bring back the 10yo version and we’ll have one of the best affordable malts around. Until then it’s just, good.

Amazing value for money, demands quite a bit of water to ease down the 60% ethanol though... very outspoken, unique and enjoyable

    • Nose

    • Nose
Essentially notes of oranges and spices. But also tobacco and a hint of pears. With some water, a caramel sweetness is added to everything else.
    • Taste
On oranges and chocolate. Strong in the mouth, personally it is never ba problem for me but it is not appreciated by everyone, especially since it is sometimes difficult to detect all the aromas with such a degree of alcohol. The good news is that it supports wonderfully some water! Oranges are even more present, accompanied by pears but also plums. Definitely better with water!
    • Finish
Pleasantly long on oranges and chocolate.

Glenfarclas '105' (60%, OB, +/- 2017)  This one too wasn’t tasted on these very lousy pages since… 2010 (WF 85 again). Oh I’ll have to do 105 vs. A’bunadh again one of these days… Colour: pale amber. Nose: epitomically Speyside indeed. You cannot be against these notes of Mars bars, millionaire shortbread, malted coffee (blend), and pipe tobacco. No you cannot. With water: whiffs of wet earth, always a win in any malt whisky. Mouth (neat): creamy and assertive, not that simple, with marmalade, malt, genuine hazelnut paste (won’t mention that awful brand again, ever) and Cointreau-filled chocolate. A sin. With water: fruits! Oranges and those lovely little fruits they/you have in China, longans. Or dried arbutus berries. Finish: perfect, balanced, kind of smooth, malty and chocolaty. Comments: up one point within seven or eight years. Seriously, this is excellent, classic malt whisky. SGP:651 - 86 points.
