- The last SMWS HPs were all really correct, really good drinkable. Very spicy, maritime and really powerful. If you like it a bit more, you are in the right place. Tentatively restrained in the nose ... vanilla ... light caramel vasabi. On the palate then really spicy on the spot. The sweetness only in the background, but just strikingly hearty. Great malt who will find many friends at the issue price. From my point of view: For HP fans a serious recommendation! Issue Price: 60 GBP (September 2017) https://www.smws.com/asian-style-barbecue
N: Creamy sour-sweet.
T: Strong neutral, coppery<savoury=sour barley.
F: Oily sour creamy mouthfeel and kind of dry, though that dryness could be coming from the previous Laphroaig.
C: Good, classic, straight ahead.Scores a C+
- SMWS tasting note:
This seemed to be a dram for all sorts of situations, someone opened a first aid box on a tractor, another installed a new inner tube in a bicycle tyre whilst yet another dug deep into a peat bog searching for buried bog-wood to make an artistic sculpture. Thankfully we all agreed on the palate; chewy, crispy yummy like Chinese style barbecued pork known as Char Siu, braised with a mixture of oyster sauce, soy sauce, red onions, garlic and red fermented tofu. Water added the smoky/fishy aroma of chargrilled Thai-spiced tuna which was also apparent on the taste with the addition of Jasmin flavoured rice.
