Whisky Reviews for Old Pulteney 1990 CA

  1. theograph scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    A great old school ex-bourbon from Old Pulteney!
    • Nose
      At first very restrained, slightly maritime and with pleasant sweet tones, oak;
    • Taste
      Super fruity with water, tropical, brown sugar, looks ripe!
    • Finish
      Fruity and slightly acidic (old) oak;

    + H2O: nothing new The nose is the best. Not age-appropriate for 26 years. 17.02.2018 78
    • Nose
      Honey, mint, menthol-fresh, with time come citrus notes
    • Taste
      good body, aromatic unfortunately an intangible mess for me
    • Finish
      long, alcoholic, fat-buttery, becomes bitter

  3. ARDBERG scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    The tasting of all 10 bottlings for the 175th was rather dissapointing (100ml samples, 5 people and all of us were quite disenchanted). Hey, Cadenhead, is this the best you can offer for this occasion? If so, why taste anything Cadenhead in the future? I think this is a big opportunity missed for building great faith in your products in the years to come. And somehow I refuse to believe this is the best you can do.

    My rates for the 175th anniversary shop bottling incl. Aberdeen:

    Tullibardine 82 (really?)

    Glenburgie 85

    Springbank 85

    Pulteney 87

    Teaninich 87

    Bowmore 87

    Laphroaig 88 (a shame for a 1998)

    Cooley 89

    Bruichladdich 89

    Arran 90 ( who would have thought this would be number 1?)

    Please, not all Germans like sulphur, i.e. Tullibardine/Springbank. There were so many beautiful bottlings of late, why this now? What did you bottle for the 150th? Worlds apart. Sadly.
