[February, 2018]  A quick review of a sample (I never buy a sherry cask bottling distilled after 1981 without sampling it before, guess why...).

The colour is yellow gold and the texture shows small tears that consolidate over time and build very slow legs.  The nose is full of ugly sulphurous aromas like fireworks in full action, spent matches and gunpowder.  To be honest:  I smell nothing else (even the sherry is completely buried under the sulphur).  The mouthfeel is disgusting with the typical scurfy plaque that heavily sulphured drams all own.  And the taste is sulphur, sulphur, sulphur and some sherry in the far distance.  The finish is long, unfortunately.  Water releases even more sulphury flavours and aromas, as usual.

This for sure is "The Devil's Share" and I guess all angels denied to sip from this cask.  I am not an angel (and I never wanted to be one) but I am not the devil either - so I leave this dram for the enjoyment of all sulphur-heads out there...

PS:  Did you notice that not a single sulphurous aroma or flavour is mentioned in the official tasting notes (see pix) - I call this cheating on the customer!  And this is a clear proof that the bottlers themselve regard sulphur as an unwanted off-note and flaw (otherwise they would have mentioned it as no one can blind out this heavy sulphur notes unintentionally).

Solid GG if you don't mind the sulphur notes. Time and air help with it a bit. Seems like 15-18 yo original bottlings of GG in cask strength. Would not give an arm or leg for a bottle. Sample first if you are tempted to buy.

Ground coffee, raspberry, sherry and Coca Cola on the one hand and sulfur, burnt matches and gunpowder on the other. Burnt caramel some vanilla and an espresso. A lot to like and also a lot to discuss.
I don't know if this was a good pick for the anniversary. But probably there should be some controversy in those bottlings, too.

Pretty special part, which compensates on the palate for the rather getting used to nose. In the finish then a bit too bitter for my taste. Overall, a nice and exciting bottling, but of a sample enough. It takes a lot of water and time.
    • Nose
Strong sulfur note, which I have to pass first. Decrepit, wet forest soil, then finally a few red fruits, slightly sour, currants and raspberries, which are already a bit rotten. Spicy oak.
    • Taste
On the tongue then more pleasant, the sour currants and caramel are there, then go over into a cocoa / nut note and oak flavor. A little vanilla. Overall, very angry
    • Finish
Long, dominated by a bitter note towards espresso. And oak spice.
