    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
Immediately after pouring me powerful smoke billow with honey-sweet accents. The high alcohol content (59.3%) ensures a cooling freshness - without burning or stinging in the nose. I place the intense smoke note in the direction of the campfire, with plenty of ashes and a light tar note. The eight-year aging in first fill bourbon barrels has left its mark: behind the smoke are rich notes of vanilla and caramel, sweet honey, light fruits (sweetened tangerines), freshly cut lemons / limes and maritime notes.
    • Taste
Wonderfully oily, with almost buttery texture, the Octomore floods my mouth. In the front area, especially on the cheeks and the tongue spreads an intense sweetness. On the tip of the tongue it begins to quake briefly at the first sip, almost 60% alcohol content and 167ppm phenol content set a striking exclamation point. The powerful smoke (campfire, ash & tar) is initially dominant, but leaves the vanilla sweetness, the slightly floral notes and bright fruit enough space for development. Caramel sweets, tangerine cake with sweet cake, honey and citrus fruits are present. Subtle hints of nuts, very delicate oak wood aromas and maritime notes (especially salt and a little bit of lime) complete the taste profile. A slight dryness already develops on the palate.
    • Finish
Long, warm and sweet and smoky. The thick smoke billows gradually become drier and displace after some time the honey-sweet aromas and bright fruits. For the first time, spicy oak notes sparkle more intensely, but remain in a rather restrained extent. Salty milk chocolate and campfire smoke let the malt finish elegantly for several minutes. The palate gets drier.

Bang and boom. Fuller than the 6.1 or 7.1. Very good intensity and very modern.

N: quite fresh, less smoke than expected, peaty, some sea, vanilla, citrus notes M: The beast strikes. The smoke glows on the tongue. Light spice and a lot of phenolic. The Alk is strong, but not biting, goes well in spite of 59% and. A little lemon, green apple, ashes, vanilla, a little sugary, but more on the spicy than sweet side A: Nothing new, except that the ash and wort strike again and fade away with a slight dryness. Fruit only completely removed. The smoke will stay for a while. Nice part- the price out of consideration. Of course very expensive for 8Y. But also delicious. The Alk is top integrated and never looks snappy. A little bit of complexity is missing, but at 8Y Bourboncask I do not expect that either.
I do not feel the smoke more violently than with Laphi CS, so the PPM does not really notice. However, I like the Laddie smoke anyway very well. 85P

N- Sea notes with a tinge of sweet barley, umami salted seaweed crackers. Sharp bonfire with boiled herbs, rosemary, thyme and dark greenish strong black tea. Cured ham, smoke fish that always good to have. Not overly smoky compared to some others which also not be a bad thing. (90/22)

P- Thick layer of carbon delivering the herb-y smokes, plenty of heats build up at the back with fresh pickled ginger, pepper, roasted peppermint, lasting salty nuances. (87/21)

F- Long, drying spicy and sticky lemon lime candy. Good length but wee short on depth. (87/21)

    Body / Balance- 90/22

    Weighted Rate- 86pt

Side by side with the 08.4 this one comes through as rough and almost unfinished while the 08.4 is rounder and much more ballanced and harmonious.
Not a bad whisky, but I think it's the least favourable one of the Octomores I've tried.

It's Octomore, so what do you expect?
Peat, smoke, black tar, ham, rubber.
But also quite an influence from the bourbon casks with vanilla sweetness, oak and a pinch of citrus.
The wood notes actually apears rather raw and fresh pushing the alc forward and giving an impression of being younger than the other in the 08 series.
    • Taste
      85 85
Firm solid body with most of the nose comming through.
Not extreme on smoke, it's rather sweet, more woody.
Also here I get the feeling of something not as matured as the other 08 bottles.
There's something more to be desired in ballance of the composition.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long, warming, and maybe a little to dry compaired to the sweetness of the body.

This peaty whisky, smoked to the extreme is already in its eighth edition, who believed it? Indeed here is a whisky that will have branded its borrows in the history of peated whisky, which has managed to create a real waiting in his fans. The 8. .. series has four versions, including one for Travel Retail. This is made from a 2008 distillate, of which 100% barley from Scotland was harvested the previous year. The barrels used all come from Kentucky or Tennessee distilleries, including Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill, Clermont Springs, Four Roses and Jack Daniels. Extremely generous drums since they are all first filling. A powerful Octomore whose meters peak at 167 ppm for 59.3% ... Should we add something else? www.passionduwhisky.com
    • Nose
Nose: There is wealth, the power is obvious. We are at the edge of a hot bitumen with this peat, which knows how to be medicinal too. The barrels were very active, since they offer this whisky creamy vanilla, sweet fruit, orange paste, caramel.
    • Taste
Mouth: Finally the first swig is very controlled on the power. A lot of vanilla, soft caramel, even milk chocolate. Peat ... yes, of course, and it's a mixture of burnt wood, from Grandma's pharmacy, with this camphor balm. The fruits are not lacking in the appeal, including candied orange. Finally we have a fine trace of salt, pepper too.
    • Finish
Finale: More salty on the end, but always with this soft caramel, this vanilla, as well as a much more medicinal character on the peat. Vegetal, see floral on the very end.

On the nose, green-yellow citrus fruits, then peat that comes at a gallop!
On the palate, it is well-greased peat, well smoked, soggy, peppery spices, a creamy velvety honey and caramel, fresh vanilla back with an interesting woody.
In the final, we go on an infiltrated peat, oozing and fresh citrus fruits but a little candied too!
An uncompromising dram, less peaty than some of his brothers, but where fruits and wood manage to magnify the product.
