No "simple" whisky and nothing to just-so-wegschlabbern. It has rough edges, is not smooth or soft washed. Nice standard.
    • Nose
      84 84
The nose dips into dark, partially fermented fruits. Meaty, fat and with a touch of damp and moldy wood. Moist clay soil. Basement smell. The blackberries and dark grapes initially have a hard time against the mildew, but they can penetrate forward after some time. A mix of herbs. Chocolate and cocoa. Marzipan. Walnuts, almonds.
Not a pleasing, but rather a demanding nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
At the beginning, walnuts, almonds and bitter orange marmalade. The intense musty odor from the nose is much less noticeable on the tongue. Grape juice and peppermint give it a fresh touch. Milk chocolate, coffee beans, a touch of vanilla - and always nutty and with a fine orange aroma. Some malt and fresh cookie dough. Season by pepper and nutmeg.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long and slightly dry. Recurring notes of gummy wood and fermented fruits. Menthol as a counterweight.

That's a discovery. It comes to my shelf with the bottles that I have to offer to friends. Strong and spicy, with orange smell and taste in all phases. Very pleasant in the nose, it then increases. A great whisky!

First, some alcohol - that has 46% and you can tell already in the nose. But no problem! Oranges and a little lemon. Subtle sweet, light wood note. Overall, full and powerful. That smells interesting, because I do not expect a light and superficial whisky.
    • Taste
      90 90
Wow, strong and spicy! There are also clearly the oranges. Then go slowly towards grapefruit, but stay spicy. Some wood in the background. And still oranges on the palate. This is a really great whisky with a strong onset and very pleasant mouthfeel. ... still oranges!

Medium long, no - rather long and pleasant still the orange taste. If I have a little glass there ...

Sweet and relatively unspectacular. This 10-year-old Ben Nevis impresses with his tasty and fruity style. Although this malt looks relatively thin and I miss complexity and that certain something, it convinces with its sweet and tasty style. This malt does not overwhelm anyone and in my opinion is more for sociable hours. Nevertheless, I was happy about this bottling and I'm looking forward to the rest of the sample.
    • Nose
Toasted aromas and hazelnuts dominate the first impression. Peaches and oranges combine to form a sweet melange, honey and light caramel melt together. The peach flavor in combination with ground hazelnuts becomes more intense and creamy, mild and harmonious float the sweet aromas in the air. The sweet and creamy fruit aromas bewitch the nose, echoes of milk chocolate mix with the creamy vineyard peach. Slightly acidic citrus aromas sparkle, otherwise dominate the sweet and creamy fruit flavors. A touch of mold and muff release from the soft and mild nose, I imagine an occasional discreet smoke perceive.
    • Taste
Mild and relatively thin, the Benn Nevis flows over the tongue. Creamy caramel and honey drip in milk chocolate, hazelnuts and spicy oak tones show up. A minimal pinch of white pepper settles on the tongue and exudes a hint of sharpness. Again creamy peaches and juicy oranges come to the fore, full-bodied chocolate mixes with creamy wood tones. The viscosity of the malts is frighteningly thin, the tasty flavors turn on again and exude their full-bodied bouquet on the palate.
    • Finish
Nutty and slightly woody, the taste goes into the aftertaste. From time to time creamy peaches and orange, caramel and milk chocolate are annoyed by subtle sharpness, a touch of freshly brewed espresso provides the bitter and slightly bitter contrast. Walnuts and hazelnuts swim creamy in the saliva under the tongue, spicy notes of wood stick to the palate. The initially plump warmth cools off slowly while the aftertaste gradually fades away with a creamy nut aroma.

Less and completely different sherry influence compared to its predecessor (52941). Less of that dark, 'roasted' PX style, even though that seems to shine through slightly in the end. More fruity, more vibrant instead.
    • Nose
Vanilla pudding, peach, caramel, red apple, almond and minerals.
    • Taste
Peach, caramel, vanilla, smoke, apple and a meaty touch.
    • Finish
Burnt caramel, roasted chestnut, peach, apple and vanilla. Sticks around nicely, even though that burnt nutty side may be an acquired taste. A taste that every Ben Nevis fan will like though.

one of the best whisky in term of quality- price with Springbank 10 yo 2016 and Kilkerran 12 yo.

Nose : 88 really amazing, an initial hint of citrus fruits, orange and cedar, completed by a progressive and predominant smell of red fruits, berries and cherry barrels

Taste 90 : The taste is delicate, an initial alcohol which is not very aggressive and which quickly gives way to a balanced and balanced cherry flavor, here too citrusy and cooked fruit, candied oranges, peaches in syrup, cedar and even hints of dried fruit (almonds) and wax and honey.the water tends to diminish the profile of this great distillate a little, emphasizing however a more herbaceous aspect and sometimes saline before hidden. it reminds in some aspects a clynelish style.
Finale (88): persistent, although less important than the sense of smell and palate.
Big bottle, to have in your own collection

maybe version of a few years ago slightly better but still very good whisky in terms of price/quality ratio. classic profile (i.e. not too much vanilla and honey). recommended.

Must have been half decent as three of us finished a full bottle in one sitting!

Fresh sweet bun, floral motifs, vanilla, malt. A hint is yeast (but very delicately). Canned fruits (peaches). A little bit of furniture lacquer. Fresh. After a long time in the glass, there are clear sherry motives. 22
    • Taste

      From easy to medium.
Moderately sweet, delicate, slightly salty. For such a nose a bit simple. 20
    • Finish
      84 84
Average in length. Warming. Dominated by grain motifs. 21

      Pleasant, well-cut highlander. Balance sheet - 21.

      Total - 84
