For the current price of around € 55, you get a very good sherry malt with smoke support. From the nose to the finish, it doesn't fall off. The 43% are pleasant and are completely sufficient for a nice drinking pleasure. In the nose I would have found a similarity to the Benromach 15y. However, in terms of taste, I find the Bowmore stronger on the smoke side and therefore more complex.
    • Nose
The 15 year old malt shimmers with a dark amber color in the glass. Some tears move slowly, almost oily, down the edge of the glass. Full nose right from the start. Nice combination of a not too strong, slightly ashy smoke together with a typical sherry aroma - dark dried red fruits. After a few minutes, the fruit component changes in the nose to more sour aromas of red juicy apples and also a hint of caramel. Maybe it's due to the smoke, but behind the sweet fruit / caramel mix, you can now also feel some leather and tobacco.
    • Taste
Nice start despite "only" 43% alcohol content. Soft, creamy mouthfeel. The smoke becomes more oily and, together with the peat, is much more present than in the nose. Furthermore a very nice combination with the fruit aromas from the sherry maturation and the sweetness of the caramel. The apples from the smell are no longer active in the mouth. The oak begins to show itself with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
    • Finish
Smoke is clearly noticeable in the mouth the entire time. The sweetness is now complemented in the finish by a pleasant bitterness of the oak. Dark chocolate and light tobacco notes stay in the mouth for a long time, along with the smoke.

    Amber color. Oily.

Peat. Green forest moss. Sea breeze. Sea salt. Salty caramel. Then feel the influence of Sherry. Rather dry Oloroso. Dried fruits. Red fruit. Damp oak bark covered with moss. A bit of ash. Smoky red candy. Gently sour notes. Raspberries and strawberries. Chocolate with raspberry filling.
    • Taste

Peat. Pretty sweet. Forestry. Forest litter. Green moss. Sea salt. Salty caramel. A bit of ash. Spices. A pinch of white pepper. Maybe a little dark chocolate. Pretty oily.

Dessert chocolate. A pinch of spices. White pepper. Sea salt. Medium-long finish. After the second sip, forest notes. Down.

Enjoyable but lack the strength to carry the profile all the way to finish. A nice smoky Islay whisky with a good amount of sherry influence.

[78-82] Good buy when I've extra money to spend, most whisky stays within this band.

    N 26
Sweet peat. Citric tropical fruit (Mango). Think dark chocolate seasoned with sea salt flakes and dried wild berries. Mildly spiced fruitcake. A whiff of medicinal peat from a distance.

    P 25
Fruity (Peach) & spicy. Moderate, ashy peat. Sherry more prominent on palate. Smoky malt. Tobacco & wood.

    F 23
Mid, smoky finish. Fruit, warm spices lingering. A touch of bitter peat to end.

    Nose

Blood oranges, a little grapefruit, Lipton ice tea peach aroma, gravy, some lovage, bay leaf, subtle lavender, the notorious Bowmore Fizzers, cake batter, the wood shows through hazelnut and cocoa notes. The smoke is typically quartz, slightly ashy, mineral and maritime, (sandy beach) Very nice nose.

Unfortunately, the aromas are less present on the tongue than on the nose (a bit flat), although you have to hold the malt too well to find the aromas throughout.

In the finish then also significantly more one-dimensional than the nose promises. Oaky with hazelnuts, pine needles and a little tart almond.

Conclusion: Solid whisky for less than 50 euros. But Bowmore could certainly get more out of it if it weren't colored, chill-filtered and bottled at 46%.

The Bowmore 15 Years Sherry Cask Finish kind of took me by surprise. It's flavoursome and outperforms what you would expect on the basis of the 43% alcohol strength.
    • Nose
Gentle wood smoke with a whiff sweet peat and soft touches of raisins, sauteed mushrooms, figs, walnuts skins and umami. Finally a whisper of orange peel, mango and some blackcurrants, as well as burlap. Rather enticing!
    • Taste
A subtle smoke influence and bright fruits with some surprising oak spices. There are dried apricots, port-stewed pears and smoked apples, followed by a pinch of salt, smoked toffee and a pleasant maltiness.
    • Finish
Sweet peat, mocha, stone fruits and lightly tannic. On the shorter side of medium in length.

Last sample of the Whisky Collection box by 'Drinks By The Dram'. I believe this is my first ever Sherry BA Peated whisky. As I usually like sherry BA, but dislike peat, this should be interesting! This final whisky of the very pleasant box, pours quite a bit darker than most of these. Dark, 'old gold' copper. Scent is surprisingly light on the peated side. More like a whiff of smoke, than a blast of peat. Fairly strong wood presence, notes of vanilla, dry touch (nutty) by the oloroso are mildly present. In the mouth, immediately the density takes a lot of attention. The first aroma's are very strong, rough wood (positive!) . Drying from the sherry. very full flavored. Peat isn't nearly as strong as I thought it'd be. Tad sweet. Awesome. Never expected this to be in the better half of the box, let alone to be amongst my favorites of the set !

  13. Don Cassi scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Primarily earthy root vegetable notes on the nose, as well as dark, dried fruits, dates, woody and spicy, slightly damp tobacco and light smoke. Great fruity-spicy play of aromas, I like it a lot, but it could be smokier.

Soft, oily and round in the mouth with slightly sour notes, but mainly fruity and spicy with notes of tobacco.

In the finish there is a good splash of dark chocolate, which covers the remaining aromas. Behind it is a faint plume of smoke.
    Length: 6/10

Great, intense, sherry-heavy malt that is relatively tame for Islay. Overall I like it very much, the coloring and the somewhat low alcohol content only slightly spoil the impression.

    Rating: B+

unfortunately i did not manage to get my hands on some older independet bowmores and had only tasted the standard range, to which this dram also belongs. for me these standard bowmores always taste like cardboard. they are not that bad, but do not excite me either.

for the money you spend on this bottle you can get much better stuff i guess. still, very drinkable. i would not say that i am disappointed, but maybe a bit bored by it? i guess if the plan of the evening is to get drunk while having an ok dram this is fine for me.

Aroma: open, immediately a mixture of dried fruit and ash. After standing for a while, even more ash, wood, minerals, drying plaster, sweet and sour dried fruit decoction (apples, pears, dried apricots), exotic juice, smoked prunes, berry-nut sorbet. Very nice old wood, similar to old lacquered furniture.

Taste: delicate, oak-tannin, smoked fruits, light smokiness, minerality, salt, chalk, walnuts, berry jam, menthol.

Finish: medium length, spicy oak, berries, activated carbon, chalk, some spices and walnuts.

    Score: 87

Bottom line: A woody, dried fruit, medium phenolic malt from Islay. Comprehensive enough for your 15 years old

Ok Bowmore, without the big highlights. Appears as something tame and boring. Probably due to a combination of low ABV and medium quality of the barrels. Have tasted some fantastic sherry whiskys from Bowmore, which this one can not match.

A subtle smoky note hovers over everything, sometimes stronger sometimes weaker. A very complex whisky that I could smell for hours.

Very clear sherry aromas are overlaid by subtle smoke. In addition, there are heavy, dark, overripe red grapes with little hint of dark chocolate.

It's interesting, but maybe not my prefered style. There's something weird in this because there's peat and sherry in the ingredients, yet the end result smells neither like peat, neither totally like consensual sherry either. So, interesting. But I'd take any Laimrig over this anyday.

The whole argument over whether the 15y without the name addition Darkest is now the same or not .... so what ...

Crushed blackberries, damp wood, forest peat. Caramel, old leather abundantly waxed, black earth filled with humus. A trickle of ash. At first it was sherry that dominated, after a while it was smoke. Very good balance.
Woody palate, sap, pear, plum and grapes, a little warming spices. Lots of dark chocolate on the finish, and even some coffee, quite long actually. Mocha. A bitter note in the retro-olfaction. A slightly fragile and nuanced expression, it changes bombs of all kinds.

I want to like it, but can't quite get past its one major fault, a lackluster body.
    • Nose
Nice sherry notes. I quite like the oak, tar, something marine, and putty (or whatever you'd call that signature smell of bowmore), but everything is a bit faint. No assertiveness, no depth. Domesticated is the word. There is this "old style whisky" air about it, but it's been ruined with water.
    • Taste
It almost makes me angry how the taste is instantly likable to me, but it's all too faint. The body is flat and lazy, and that is such a major fault, the otherwise pleasant, tarry, chemical-y taste can't save it.

Superlecker, I think I find it even better than its predecessor
    • Nose
beautiful, intense & open nose, that starts when you open the bottle, when pouring, no waiting, no "searching" - ripe dark berries (blackberry, black, currant, red gooseberry), red grapes, dark chocolate, cedar, subtle , cool, dry smoke
    • Taste
Nasal promise is fulfilled: strong and full-bodied, everything is there, only the order is slightly different, first the smoke - something stronger than in the nose, ashen, burnt cake, then chocolate, cocoa, juicy, dark berries ... and you could definitely interpret a violet-lavender note, there's something flowery ;-)
    • Finish
long, warm, dry, bittersweet, cocoa, a hint of pepper, black berry fruit liqueur

    • Nose
Syrup, sweet coffee, fig and sweet iced coffee.
    • Taste
syrupy toffee and a viscous oily but still creamy texture. Much malt and hints of smoke
    • Finish
burnt toffee and toast. Overall a big interplay between vanilla and sherry. Like dripping Oloroso Sherry on good vanilla ice cream
